seed trust - glass gem corn

secure.seedtrust.com

Check them out, especially the "glass gem corn".

I saw a photo of it on Facebook and posted to my page, it's really something neat.

Seems to be very hard to get, and it might only be feed corn - or maize.

Worth checking out.

The 'seed trust" does have a fb page if you do fb.

Also, does anyone here have it? seeds?
What do you know about it. It does look very pretty, but does anyone know the uses?

I saw what you posted on facebook, and that is the prettiest corn I've ever seen! It looks like it might be a popcorn.

I had never heard of glass gem corn so I did a yahoo image search for 'glass gem corn'. That corn is very colorful. I also learned that there are other products that turn up in this search. Interesting.

I'll put out a couple of feelers to see if I can get ahold of it but I'm not hopeful at this point. Some of the more rare varieties are very hard to get ahold of in any type of quantity.

It's really pretty, but what do you DO with it? Flint corn is a whole lot harder to grind than dent or flour corn. Or is it just for decoration?

I would use it for decoration, but Wikipedia says that popcorn is a flint corn, and flint is also what hominy is used for.

If I'm understanding correctly what popcorn is - if it was used for popcorn it would make for pretty popcorn too - if it held its colors. I'm imagining strings of colorful popcorn strung up on a Christmas tree.

All the colored popcorn I've seen pops white and only the kernels are colored.

That is beautiful corn.

*sigh* all that pretty is inside the puff when popped and in hominy preperation that outside layer is disolved with lye...

I was thinking of drilling and using as beads......

MPS...you only need to find enough for US!

I don't know if it is worth growing it for food, but it might be worth growing it to sell at the Farmer's Market.

That photo where it looks so pretty, I would bet it has been oiled, or is at least wet, to make it prettier in the photo.
