Found my next zombie rifle

It's supposed to be the biggest center fire rifle in the world, $40 a round.

there are huge 20 & 25mm special purpose rifles on the market that make that look like a rimfire

Hmm, I had to go check on that. Turns out, it's the same as the 20mm, in a smaller, more efficient case. I didn't find ballistics on the 25X137mm yet and don't feel like digging out the Oerlikon Manual tonight. Of course, high explosives in the projectile are a game changer that tips in favor of the military stuff.

Quote:
The cartridge propels its 3,600 gr (230 g) bullet at approximately 2,200 ft/s (670 m/s). This yields a muzzle energy of 38,685 ft·lbf (52,450 J)
Quote:
The ballistics of the .950 JDJ is more similar to that of the 20mm autocannon round, which delivers approximately 39,500 ft·lbf (53,600 J).

is bigger, at 1.035-inch bore i believe would have been bigger than the JDJ, as for energy delivered the jdj may be a heftier kill ahead and cripple behind round, but definately not bigger unless you factor in that many of the old four bores were mrely 5 bores and hence would be smaller at a mere .975 caliber but still that is bigger than the .950JDJ !!! even ifin they did shoot FFg Black powder in the cartridges, they are still centerfire!

Rifle Magazine
offered a nice article on the old four bore Elephant rifle, and no the 4 bore was not a shotgun....... on this Double rifle page near the bottom you can see the comparison of a 22 long rifle, a 30-30 and the 4 bore projectiles and loaded centerfire cartridge!

in my mind there is nothing more beautiful than a properly made double rifle, drilling or funfling! there may be more practical, but not more purdy.

I am pretty sure that federal law prohibits firearms bigger than .50 diameter bullets from being sold to civilians. This might not apply to muzzleloaders

then that would ban 20 & 12 gauge slugs & civilian legal 37mm grenade launchers (HE rounds not available but pyrotechnic & rubber rounds are).

He got an exception.

As its name implies, rifles chambered for the cartridge have a bore diameter of 0.950", which would normally classify them as Destructive Devices under the 1968 (1934) National Firearms Act. However, SSK sought and received a "Sporting Use Exception" to de-regulate the rifles, meaning they can be purchased like any other Title I rifle by a person over age 18 with no felonious criminal record.

Falls under NFA-Destructive Devices---just neck down to .50 bullet-there is a 20mm/.50 rifle that anyone can buy with no $200 tax stamp....You can buy HE-WP-etc rounds for 37/40mm..they just require a $200 tax stamp per round-so if you can afford $250 per round, you got more money than me

Imho, when fighting zombies, quantity of fire rules... coupled with quality shots. In other words, I'd rather have two spam cans of .223, 7.62x39, or 5.45x39 (~1000 rounds) than a JDJ .950 or even a Barrett 50. Having shot some hot large bore hoglegs... I can attest, after just a few rounds, your hands get numb... and numb hands aren't what you want when the zombie hordes are advancing. My AR15 and AK74 have almost zero recoil... can shoot them single handed and keep on target. Rather be able to take out a thousand than just one or two!

Of course, being a 'guy', I'd not turn down anything JDJ makes... having a JDJ on my Contender would beat having to unsheath the bad sharp zombie machete!
