Need to make a box for daughter

My daughter just got her DL in May . This will be her first winter on the roads. I need to make a box for her trunk, so she will have the nesisities if she would go into a ditch or be stranded. She dosn't drive over 20 miles from our house but we are in the snow belt.

I have so far a sleeping bag, mylar foil blanket
lighter, and candles
granola bars, candy, soup in cans
water
extra hat and mittens, scarf, heat packs
winter boots, extra socks
sled with rope
Red strips of material for flagging someone.

What am I'm missing??

Thanks

A can opener unless the soup has those easy open lids.

First aid kit, flares, 2 or 3 reflective triangles, fix-a-flat, de-icer, anti-freeze, glo sticks, snow shovel, kitty litter and or burlap sacks, jump leads, tow rope.

My best suggestion would be to have the box of things in the actual car as opposed to the truck, what if she can't access the truck?

I have seen cars that have gone into a ditch backwards and the trunk is completely buried in snow.

"Box for daughter" in a survival forum has some odd connotations...

High caloric food - peanut butter
Distilled water - good for a lot of things
batteries that will hold a charge - old cell phone (they can all dial 911)
Insulation - you have covered
Air horn - big noise

her car is a newer , she can access the trunk area.

I alway carried a sled and rope when the kids were little as
I thought I could put things I needed in it and still walk my way out.

I know know to add a compass and a map. with instuctions on how to get home from the main roads.

That's fine at the end of your driveway. A death sentence in the hinterlands.

Trying to "walk out" is without question the worst advice you can give her unless she is stuck at the end of your driveway!

I am trying to cover all angles here from what I have seen in my long years, you still want to put things in the truck...what if her leg is broken, or an arm, will she be able to climb through the car to get in the truck then. Put the box directly behind the drivers seat on the floor!

Thanks for the input.

I don't live in the hinterlands, there are houses every few miles and some are closer together. I will put the items behind her seat, as I had not thought of an injury.

In most of the cases I've read about where people died after abandoning their car the bodies were found within a mile of their car.

To a teenager, a beer and pizza deficiency is an "emergency". 20 bucks wouldn't survive the week, LOL......

the soup might freeze and explode....protein bars might be a better choice.

I have to agree, take that sled out and tell her to never ever leave her car to "walk it out", if she has no cell service, no visible homes wherever she is broke down or has crashed her car, then her best bet of being found is being missed by you (or other family/friends) and then they will find her car, it would be her best bet to be found.

I agree, forget the soup and put in protein bars.

added: the most important thing for young drivers is to learn how to change a tire, know how to pop the hood, use jumper cables, check the oil, and read the gauges inside the car (and know what they mean), some real basic "how the car works" information is really helpful and is the best "prep", just my 2 cents.

Also make sure she tells you where she's going and when she expects to be home so you'll know where to start looking.

I agree DO NOT leave the vehicle. When we were traveling we always carried those triangle reflective things like truckers have to mark the road incase of a break down.
