Have well - need water purifier?

If I have a deep well would I need a water purification system (assuming I'm staying put).

Don't need to purify it now with electric pump - would that change if I had to go to say a well bucket system?

The well bucket lowers down through a PVC pipe to the water level, so I'd assume it's safe to drink. We have a well bucket but haven't ever used it so this is a good question. I'll be checking to see if anyone else has a good answer.

I'd say have the water tested. If you don't want that hassle, just get a nice Berkey filter.

Water flows in currents through the dirt and rocks just like it does on a lake, only a lot slower.

Contaminants 30 miles away might take 3 years to reach you. The local Geologist might have maps of how ground water flows in your state.

Communities are are finding formaldehyde leaching into groundwater from older cemetaries. It's illegal to bury bodies in the ground these days in many states without putting the casket into some kind of vault in the ground.

Military posts have been forbidden to dig latrines since the 1990s on account of urine and fecal traces found in a towns well water just outside of post. That doesn't stop the bears and deer from doing their business, but they aren't 10,000 troops training in the area either.

I am of the opinion that everyone needs a water purifier. A well can go dry, become contaminated, or you may have to leave your home. I love my Berkey filters.

I built my own housing from 5 gallon buckets, and only paid for the black berkey filter cartridges, too. Saved a ton of money and I can fill as many buckets as I want with the same set of filters. Of course, one thing leads to another and now I have plenty of filter cartridges, too.
