Dinner...$1.50 for 4 plus left overs

Green beans from the garden....free
2 slices of bacon about 25c (to cook green beans with)
Baked beans (Bush Country style from store) 1.09
Cukes and cherry tomatoes ...free from garden/volunteer
Potatoes from sprouting 50 # bag...free to plant 52 days ago
Zucchini bread from my friend in trade for cedar posts we were cutting on our property for kindling....a bit of margarine and salt.

I actually was paid in bacon/pork to help move a couple of bulls awhile back so really the bacon was free too.

The cukes and bean seed costs($6)have easily been paid back w/ 28 Q of green beans and 12 Q of pickles. I pulled one potato plant and got 4 good sized potatoes....

Nice! I love Zucchini bread and I love to trade and barter.

It is hot here so I had a very light, filling and free dinner.

Tomato, provolone and Arugula Salad Sprinkled with snipped herbs and dressed with extra virgin olive oil.

Tomatoes, herbs and Arugula free from garden, provolone was a trade for some of my grapes and olive oil was given to me by my sister.

We have alot of dinners here like that any more. Usually Rabbit, home grown veggies and potatoes. Fixed differently as possible.
lately the veggies are what ever is left from canning that day.
A few days ago it was a big bowl of cole slaw.

3 days ago it was stir fried rabbit and veggies over rice. Accually a more expensive dinner, because we had to buy the rice.

New potatoes, tomatoes, green beans and cabbage from the garden. Left over beef and noodles. I know how to s-t-r-e-t-c-h meat so a beef roast served 4 or 5 meals before I made the beef/noodles and the beef/noodles is 3rd time leftover so way free. Cost -0-

I have to chuckle at this thread, I love it when I put free food on the table. Tonight it was salmon I caught, salad, spuds & zukes I grew, wine from the wild blueberries I picked last year. Wonder what the rich folks had.

And if this hillside I found today keeps providing we'll have plenty of free huckleberry juice this winter too.

no onions....waiting for the garden ones to mature!

Nice pic GC! I've caught and eaten those Alaskan salmon---major YUM! Sometimes my boy will bring home trout or small land locked salmon when he fishes near our camp by Rangely...but he only shares once in awhile. He loves to catch and cook for himself! He plans to try out Alaska one day soon (he's almost 17yo)

We are sooo lucky here in the PacNorWest.

We went clamming and crabbing yesterday and have 2 nice sized dungeness crabs & 120 manilla clams for dinner. License was $35 for the year for DH, so there was a cost involved, but it's for the whole year and covers so much bounty from the sea. My 2 boys don't need a license and they are allowed their own catch (2 crab and 40 clams each).

We are truly blessed. And thank goodness because our garden was/is pathetic this year!

So tonight's dinner will be steamed crab and clams, sugar snap peas from the garden and homemade italian bread slices toasted ---to dunk into the clam liquor. I steam the clams in white wine, red pepper flakes, oregano, parsley, garlic clove, and butter.

Cost = price of red pepper flakes, bottle of white wine, ingredients for bread

I think we can dig clams here in Maine too but my DH is fussy 'bout shellfish. It's 45 miles away too so gas money$$ would eat it up!

We finished Zuke bread for breakfast and now I have a gallon of chili brewing...
1# of moose sausage (about $1 pound for processing/license)
can of baked beans $1.09
free zucchini
last years canned tomatoes $0
home canned Kidney beans $1 a Quart (25# bag from honeyville)
McComick hot chili packet .19c after coupon
handful of FD peppers and onions 25c
one night over pasta $1
one night taco salad (homegrown greens and $2 chips)
half a bag of shredded cheddar $1
total $7.50 ~

this will be 2 dinners for 4 and lunch for DH twice so 10 servings

2 inst. size instant corn muffin mixes came with the zuke bread so I'll do a btch of that for dinner and leftovers for breakfast...with some wild blueberries we picked in them...
