of what she buys. Did we miss something? She is now beginning to shop in ads and buy in bulk when things go on sale...ie...buy 5 oils, 5 peanut butters...etc....when on sale and just store and rotate.....

Again, what did we miss?

Well the msm will tell you there is no inflation, but you have now experienced it first hand. prices for everything have been creeping up for months now. I've been hitting the sales and stocking up on non-perishables (and meat for the freezer) for some time now.

This is a direct result IMHO of the increase in fuel costs combined with quantitive easing and the anemic economy in the US and elsewhere. It costs more to produce and ship products, corn prices (a staple ingredient in alot of food products either as feed or filler) have increased sharply in the last two years. Some say people move to metals when currency is in trouble.. Gold has doubled in the last two years and is now over $1,631 an ounce.

Inflation is inevitable, prep for it.

We don't use sugar except for canning and a little for baking, we needed some. WOW Hadn't bought any for years. Found 5lb on sale for $1.99, close to $4 regular. I can fruit in juice instead of sugar. I am grateful my nephew keeps us supplied in honey....James

And napkins are smaller, and toilet tissue smaller, and portion in cans smaller, and indented bottoms on yogurt containers....its been hidden as much as they can but inflation is already raging,Carter era inflation is around the corner.

Inflation is how you pay back debt, debt has exploded,no rocket science here to see inflation will explode, and it already is doing so.

Ignore the govs garbage, trust your own lying eyes.

Paper products are absolutely stupidly priced. I'm lucky enough to be blessed with some extra funds and no debt... But I still won't buy paper towels... I just can't stomach the price anymore... We use old rags for cleaning and cloth napkins at dinner... I guess it won't be long before corn cobs have to be reintroduced (lol)

Pressure washer...

We noticed the Sav-a-lot price jump in Pulaski a few months back. Do you have a new store being constructed in the area? They might be trying to use cash flow to help fund the construction costs.

If I could buy 5 lbs of sugar for 1.99 locally I'd grab a bunch of it. I think generic store brand sugar locally is about 2.99. We're paying 22.00 a gallon for local raw honey, up from about 18.00 a year ago. I'd love to just use honey for all my canning, but it's just too expensive.

Yeah, I make a monthly trip to Save-A-Lot and I have really noticed the prices increase. They are also switching over to their own brand of products called "Today" and some of them I don't like as much.

Sugar around here on sale is $3.29 for 5 pounds, store brand. I am glad I stocked up last year, was still adding a 5 pound bag every other month or so to keep my supply up but I'm thinking I may skip to every other month now.

I use honey every day, locally I am still getting a gallon for $18, but I get that discounted price since I always bring fresh herbs to the beekeepers wife

Since we have for the most part stopped shopping in grocery stores when I do go in one I walk around like I'm in a different universe. Both the cost & items amazes me.

Haven't been in SAL since I posted about the online coupon they had posted on their website (bought while vinegar).

We were in Aldis on Thursday bought; two bags of nachos, broccoli, and a bag of chicken breasts. Nachos use to be 99¢ now $1.19.
Pretty much just eating off the pantry shelves with home canned goods or what is starting to be harvested out of the garden.
I've been mixing up a quart of drinking powdered milk that I bought from Shelf Reliance. Non fat powdered for cooking, baking, yogurt making. Bartered a good deal on fresh eggs for vegetable seedling two mos. ago. Same with some pork.

Hubby stops by a meat market for ground beef and gets a deal.

over the past month. Part of the issue is that we have transitioned into the new fiscal year. Bottom line, in that month, everything went up.

Did you'all notice the 1 1/2 liters of pepsi?? they are selling them for the "old" 2 liter (very very recently old) price of .99cents. the 2 liters are anywhere from cheapest on sale 1.25 to 1.99 +
I think its going to be the new tuna can downsizing. I dont buy much soda, but I couldnt help but notice it at work.
I have a birthday party coming up for youngest DS, so I have been watching. I thing I'll make them strawberry lemonade instead

We go in to shop about every 4 weeks and usually spend about $200, at Rainbow, Cash & carry, Winco and Wal-mart.
We select only the best deals. We are having a hard time spending the $200.
Mostly cause we pass up the over inflated items.
But from now on if I find even 1 good deal, I think I will get close to buying out the shelf on that item. Rainbow had the big size can of peaches for 50 cents, so i was buying some every time I go. They were out this last time.
We may end up living on beans rice and canned peaches.

I don't' know how you people get all these bargains at the stores like that, dollar general and such. somebody drags me in those places and they are always higher. Al ot of it disguised in fewer servings or items in the box. And there sizes are different so you can't comparison shop

The Save a Lot coffee here did go up this week. I can't complain though, they are the cheapest coffee in town and they held their price for a long time.

And the Walmart grape juice is now a 3 liter instead of a gallon.

not great stores

We have no save a lot and only one grocery store. our wally world has some grocerys but never good sales and prices arent always cheaper than the grocery store. It is an hour drive one way to bigger town and prices not enough different to pay to go. I just get the sales and what I have to have and do without a lot.

Yep, the little market here puts weekly outdated items on sale on tuesday, with a few things from the sales ad, that is what we eat for the week. Bananas, maybe a small meat item, canned item, a staple, mustard, sea salt, etc. We have most of what we eat canned, frozen, smoked or dehydrayed....James

I just put up another 25 lbs of sugar, and have flour in the freezer being prepped for storage. I was able to get sugar at .41 a lb but the normal price is about .57 a lb and climbing. If you are short on basics (flour, sugar, pasta, rice, beans, etc.) NOW is the time to finish stocking up. Beans can be pressure canned to preserve them if necessary. I'm still short salt and few other items like cornstarch and I'll be loading up on them and vacuum packing them for storage.
Price have climbed as much as 30% in my area, and are going to continue to go up. If we have the bump on the debt payments, expect a huge flux in prices as the cost of doing business (credit) is just going to be chaos for a few weeks.
