Tattler canning lids????

How many have tried these? Got an unexpected dividend check from our electric co-op and think I'll get some. Cheapest regular mouth lids around here are $1.63 a box. Not that I can't afford 'em but reusuable seems smarter by far. Sure seems like the smart way to go but would like to know what you all think....after all, you talked me into the Excalibur and I'm having fun with it! Thanks.....DEE

We are trying them out right now, we canned up 7 qts of bacon about 6 months ago and they worked fine however we have not tried to reuse one yet. Once canning season gets going full steam we plan to use them a lot.

I like them. I've only used them a handful of times, but I have done pressure and water bath canning with them. They were easy to get a good seal and it was pretty easy to tell if they did seal.

I'm impressed enough that I buy a box of wide mouths every time I go to Lehman's.

I don't do much canning myself - I leave that up to my wife and she really likes them. We started carrying them at the request of many people here. http://www.mypatriotsupply.com/Tattl...er_regular.htm

There is a learning curve with them. They are used a little differently than one time use lids. Read up on how to use them with pressure canning and such and they should work fantastic for you!!

I've used them for a couple of years now. And I just ordered more in the last couple of months. I haven't tried them for pressure canning, but they work great for water bath canning, pickling, etc. I love that they are BPA free and reusable. They're expensive but they pay for themselves over several years of use.

I just bought a bunch and canned some meat with them. Have not opened them yet but they sealed just fine. The learning curve mentioned is worth mentioning again--and the way you have to open them to preserve your sealing ring for additional use. But I think they'll be wonderful over the years.

We've been pressure canning with them since Fall. We've re-used some of them a few times. They work fine. We're cleaning out our freezers now and canning up chicken. Out of the last 28 jars, we had 2 seal failures which is about average for us using them.

Thank you for this information. I've been considering them. Does Patriot Supply take money orders? (I could look, but I'm lazy). I don't do credit cards.

I remember seeing posts where Matt mentioned taking checks and, I think, money orders.

I just ordered some of the Tattle lids from him yesterday, along with other goodies, and am looking forward to trying them. The price has come down on them some since I first saw them for sale, and Matt has the best price I've found yet.

The March/April issue of Countryside & Small stock journal has an article on using the Tattler lids. It discusses the things that need to be done differently with them, so if you are considering using them you might want to get a copy of that magazine. I purchased some about 2 months ago but haven't been able to use them yet.

We do have the option on our web site. The checkout process will direct you on where to send a check or money order. We do this for the folks that for whatever reason do not want to use online forms of payment. Trying to hang on to our old fashioned roots.

That said, when an order comes through it allocates inventory to that order, making it unavailable to anyone else. We've had terrible luck with people choosing the check/money order option actually sending it. I would say about 80% don't. So the only thing I ask for anyone who uses that option is if you change your mind and decide you don't want the order to just drop us an email so we can cancel it out of the system.

Otherwise I have to sit and wait a few weeks and wonder when the appropriate time to cancel a pending order is after not hearing anything.

I've canned many things in both the water bath & pressure canner with my Tattler lids. I had just one fail to seal, probably because I didn't wipe all the dill seeds off the rim.

I've yet to start reusing them yet though.

I love my Tattlers. Now I just need to order 1252 more.

I have used them and re-used them at least 4 times now. I plan to invest in lots more. I can't believe how durable they are for both water bath and pressure canning. I've canned meat, vegetables and fruit in them. I have had ZERO failures with them! You just need to read the directions carefully. You DO tighten them as you remove them from the canner.

There are many threads on this in Preserving the Harvest. Long story short the majority of us that use them like them. Yes, I have re-canned with them many times. I have had to replace 2 rubber gaskets (both are from the 1980's production line of Tattlers), I finally figured out why....when the 8 yr old was doing dishes she liked stretching them like rubber bands. I don't recommend treating them that way, lol.

Bought some after reading here and Jackie Clay's endorsement of them. Haven't used them yet but feel pretty confident they are a good investment.
