Wow, that's a deal! Holstein steers are going high (like all the rest of the cattle) around here. I'm just no good at bartering. Now my son, he get's it honestly from his g-dad, my fil. He delights in getting a deal. Will you eat the steers or turn around and sell them?

We traded 6 feeder pigs for 2 bottle calves, Holsteins as well. Both steers for the freezer, One for this year and the other for next year. All we need know is chickens and we will have the basic meat group covered.

Well, it looks like your neighborhood is upside down from ours. Best price for a good layer here is $4 to $5 each, and a 2 day old calf would be around $40 - $50. You did good!!

As long as both sides are satisfied with what they receive, everyone gets a good deal.

Are they less expensive because they are dairy calves...? Dairy farmers obviously need a cow in production but don't need bull/steer calves. They don't have as much muscle as beef cattle but still..... What a deal!

Did you notice that mpillow states their location as CHINA? I have to keep reminding myself that this forum is world wide and not just the USA.
