Kelp

I have been attempting to order kelp without success. My interest in kelp is not because of the radiation scare. When reading about its benefits, it is supposedly helpful for fatigue and skin conditions, problems that I have. It is a source of iodine which persons living away from the ocean may be deficient. Evidently, iodine and its derivatives are being bought up by? I did place another order today, and I'm waiting for that part of the order to be cancelled like my order yesterday. Wondering what's going on with that.

What nutrients are in kelp that are so important and can you find more local sources?

My suspicion is that the answer will be yes. There's probably something equal to or better that you step over every day as you walk through your yard.

We use kelp all the time in soups. It has a natural msg that really brings out flavor. It also is high in iodine, as was noted. There is no shortage of it, but it is a good idea to get it from a health food store.

a 1/2" x 4" strip of dried kelp in a big pot of soup is usually plenty. Put it in at the last 20 minutes of cooking.

Any store that sells bulk supplies should have some kelp available. azure standard, frontier herbs are a couple of places that I have seen. Also check out your health food stores, or natural food co-ops.
I didn't know about the natural msg, but we do use it in soups and ground meat for the valuable sea minerals in contains. I use powdered kelp.

swanson

swansonvitamins.com has it buy one get one free, or at least they did a couple weeks ago when I ordered. At any rate, even if that sale is over they have a good price and a high quality product. I take one every day, it is supposed to be good for your health, especially for women.

If you have an Oriental grocery, or a large grocery store that has an Oriental section in it, you'll find seaweed there. Usually dried, although I have found frozen. (nasty stuff, imo. icky...and yes, I hate sushi)
