Facebook and Privacy

Not really sure where to put this...there's not exactly a "Paranoia" forum on here...(although I should have put it on the "social networking" thread, now that I've thought about it).

Facebook and Privacy and the link to information-gathering companies (CIA and IOA included).

In the last 24 hours, I've received three junk emails with the names of every one in my immediate family (children listed in birth order). The ONLY place I can think of that would have all of this is Facebook, and not necessarily from my profile alone.

I had a facebook account but recently nuked it. The unfortunate thing is all of the pictures and posts you put up are facebook's to keep and do with once they choose. They "kindly" keep your account tucked away so that if you change your mind in the future you can login and reactivate it. The only way to get rid of everything is to go through one by one and delete all of your pictures and posts. What a pain!

When I read the title of this post:

Facebook and Privacy

My first thought was "oxymoron".
I suppose it is not more invasive than using a credit/debit card, store rewards card, holding a library card, or posting on a website such as this.....

I've always tried to remember that no matter what - what is posted on the internet ALWAYS remains on the internet.......... via your posting or someone's sharing of.
Deletions are only a fig-nution of your mind.

Not a facebook fan, but if people want privacy, I have some experience. I've been tracked thru pictures with my name in magazines, the newspaper and off TV. It 's not too hard once they know the name of your town, or even close to your town they just ask the operator on phone info. The can follow you every move, call your home and figure out your hours. Never post pictures of your children or pictures with your license plate. Think, that someone is always watching you. Think- when you get pulled over.Think when someone is behind you after you leave someplace and it seems they are following you home-do not pull into your driveway -go past. I've even had a "fake" police officer follow me home. I know everyone's circumstances are different, but the point is, really use your head. Please be safe.

Someone pulls in behind me, once I pull off the main road, if it's not the other family that lives down thissaway, my relatives, or the oil company, I pull on down the road, and park on a blind curve, hop out of the truck, and politely ask them who they are, where they going, what they're doing, always taking the license plate #, etc. Follow me home? Bwahaahahhahhah.... they'd never get that far. If they're up to no good, my concealed 'friend' reveals itself, and the conversation ends, turn around and leave or take a good look around, this is where you'll remain for an eternity, or until my flock of pet buzzards disassembles them. Only had to use the 'friend' technique once, they haven't ever made it back down here. One of my 10 commandments... Thou shalt not abide a meth head.

True, you can't be too safe. But when you feel unsafe, it should only last a second or two, until you can reach over and un-holster hellfire and destruction on whatever is threatening your tranquility.
