music

Saw a comment on another thread about enjoying and listening to music, & maybe not being able too when there is no power.
I love lots of different music.
However I haven't ever depended on electronics for that particular pleasant entertainment. We have many different instruments that I have picked up here & there for very little. If they needed some repair or new pads I took care of that. We've always had a piano which is played frequently. And we sing. We've learned parts to different songs or just all sing the melody.
Now, granted, our instrumental skills and voicing will not match the music on our tapes, cds & records, but our daughter playing her violin on the porch on a summer evening is very satisfying. Hearing our son play some of his piano selections at his top speed has been interesting.
shoot, I even sing/howl with the dogs in the morning as I'm putting on my boots to go out & go chores. The bigger dog is a tenor, and the smaller dog is a high soprano. I'm somewhere in between there. They know if they are in good voice, they get a "good job" and a biscuit.
Keep on making a joyful noise.

I've gotten super-cheap harmonicas off of ebay. Simple and easy to play. Easy maintance, and can kinda fake humming along with singing. A simple thing, but it really helps liven up an evening. In shtf, music will probably be one thing helping people cope and adjust.

I have a flute as I played in JR. High and can still do so , a little bit.

And I have a hammered dulcimer to learn to play. I can get very very basic music out of it so far.

I use drums. Lotsa fun. Even for little kids. Nothing is more fun than sitting around the cookfire of an evening participating in a drumming circle.

Everyone in our house plays instruments... piano, flute, saxophones of all varieties, all varieties of clarinet, french horn, standard percussion, African & Brazilian percussion. We have a really good jazz singer in the house and we know all of the standards. The only instrument that wouldn't work would be the bass guitar. (We don't own a stand up bass...)

We have a guitar and dulcimer. We plan on getting DS drums for Christmas. Can't afford a piano, but my Mom has promised me her pump organ, which still works wonderfully. Just have to have enough energy to pump those bellows. My Mom also has an accordian.

Drums/guitars of all kinds/giant upright piano/ sax/trombone/Irish flute/banjo/kazoo's...and 5 voices. We've got plenty of music making possibilities.
