Bad habits

Time to get honest with each other and ourselves...everyone has bad habits but I figure now is the time to break mine instead of having to do it WTSHTF. For example, I am addicted to caffeine, namely a certain soft drink which I literally can't go a day without. If I do, I am not very nice to be around and I have an awful headache right above my left eye. Can you imagine dealing with that AND TEOTWAWKI? So I pledge to do my best to give up Dr. Pepper...let's see how long I can go It might also help drop these 20 lbs I am carrying but don't need to be.

So, what is your bad habit?

Mine is Mountain Dew. I try to keep it at one per day, and switched to diet (YUCK!).
In my own little mind, I justify it by the fact that I don't care for coffee, and start work early in the morning.
I'd sure like to give it up though...........

I have been drinking 5-8 diet coke a day for years.
Last week the craving for them was gone.
I would drink a little of one and leave it sitting.
Thank goodness no head aches. No more grumpy
than normal LOL.
So my caffeine intake is now just one cup of coffee in the AM.

I gave up cafffine a couple years ago -- got the headache you mention, but it went away after 2 or 3 days -- the hard part is realizing that if you pick up the habit again, you'll have to go through the headache agsin. Good new is I can have an occasional diet coke (if we go out) and it's ok, its the 3 or 4 (or more) cans a day that caused the addiction

diet coke

Mine was diet coke but usually only one/day...I quit buying it but when I go out, I might get one. I haven't really missed it (too much) but I have been drinking more ice tea.

Being disorganized and air conditioning.

The former I've been struggling with all of my life. May lick it yet. One day.

The latter I have no intention of giving up until I simply have no choice in the matter.

.....Alan.

I have been trying to quit smoking. I just need to get rid of those things.
I stopped using charge cards now for 3 months. Am trying to get paid off.

Mine are coke and chocolate. I go through phases where I give up and have 3 days of being horrible to everyone and having headaches, but on the plus side I usually drop 1/2 a stone in 10 days too. I don't know how I end up back on them again I just always do. I'm gaining weight atm and planning on giving them up again, I just keep telling myself "I'll start tomorrow...."

Hi Candyknitter - haven't seen you post before - welcome. I was born and raised in South London - whereabouts are you?

I am gradually getting rid of all my bad habits - only drink water (occasionally fruit juice), no smoking, gave up chocolate, trying to be more vegetarian in my diet. I am doing OK, with a few minor lapses (chocolate), but it sure has paid off with improvements in my blood sugar, cholesterol, and weight. It's hard, though.

I would be very unhappy if I couldn't have some chocolate!

I'd hate to be around if DH couldn't get cigarettes!!

I used to be Dr. Pepper's mistress ... but I finally ended the clandestine affair about three years ago.

Although there are times I miss him terribly I force myself to remember how heavy the load was to carry back then.

(35 pounds lighter, and haven't changed a dadgum thing in my diet but dropping his sweet hiney ... that suave little rascal him ... argh.)

Seriously, well done Mama Crow. That is something to be justifiably thankful for. May you continue taking care of your body by watching what you eat & drink.

I probably drink less than 10 12 oz cans of soda a year. I do try to take 80 oz water a day, but don't always do so well in that regard. Plus, drinking plenty of water helps with your digestive tract & will tend to reduce hunger cravings to some degree.

Need to spend more time on the treadmill tonight though.

I, uh, was drinking a twelve-pack of Dr. Pepper a day ... a fifteen year affair ... not something I am proud of ... it really was an addiction.

But, since I've broken that off, I have gone the other extreme ... now I am a holistic health nut.

I agree with Alan on the AC...especially after the last month. I also struggle with the organization issue but I finally feel like I'm making some headway.

Rose I'm right there with you on the coffee and tea thing. I use to be addicted to diet drinks but I can take them or leave them now. I did replace the cokes with iced tea and that made it easier. It was one of the easiest things I ever gave up to my surprise. Chocolate is a temptation too but I can handle that.

Coffee and tea are some of my most important preps LOL.

Just picked up the wife from work, & am on the treadmill now. Sure is nice to walk in the air conditioned apt rather than the 85º heat outside, plus the humidity is lower inside as well.

I never was addicted to soda or caffiene, I was much to cheap to pay the going price for it. So yes, frugality IS healthy as well.

It is different typing while walking on a treadmill, have not quite got the hang of it yet.
