What fixed blade do you own?

I'm looking at buying a fixed blade knife. I'll take this on hikes, camping trips, and canoe trips. Right now, I'm looking at the SOG Pup Elite. Which fixed blade do you own, and what do you like about it?

I have the Ka-Bar Hunter. To me, it's the perfect knife. It's a good sized blade, it's long enough for dressing a whitetail, but small enough to use on a rabbit. I like the leather handle because it gives a good grip., just wish the handle part was little longer because I have big hands.

I have a Gerber hunting knife, with a fairly short blade. I haven't been hunting big game for a long time, but do butcher goats on occasion, as well as rabbits and chickens frequently, and once in a while I have fish to butcher. This knife works fine for my needs. If I'm going camping/packing, I also carry a small bow saw and a camp ax, as well as my Leatherman (which is always on me), so the Gerber isn't my only sharp edge. The only thing I still need to get is a good quality machete.

I have a couple Ka-Bars, a Cold Steel SRK, and a few smaller Air Force survival knives in storage. Even got an M-7 bayonet. My preferred blade for most situations is the SRK (Survival Rescue Knife) due to the balance and the composition of the blade's steel for sharpening reasons. I love the good ol' K-Bar, but people look at ya' funny when ya' whip it out.

The one I use the most is a Swedish military Mora knife that I bought from Sportsman's Guide. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/c...e.aspx?a=78455 It's a great little knife. It comes very sharp, it holds its edge well and is easy to sharpen. It has a 3 7/8 inch blade which is big enough for most jobs and precise enough to make small jobs easier. It just feels really good in my hand. Can't beat the price either.

Hard to go wrong with one of these. Not a flashy "combat" knife, just reliable cutting, functional and easy to care for.

I carry a "Mack Special" , my daddy makes some of the best homemade custom knives I have ever used. They aren't real fancy, just rugged and reliable! You can't kill one and they hold an edge like nobody's business!

It is a great site. I've ordered from them a few times and they've been a good company to do business with.

I have Allen Blade,Busse,Becker,Benchmade Buck,Cammilus,Chris Reeve,Cold Steel,Fehrman, Ghurka House,Jerry Fisk,Ontario,Scott Cook an a few others I know I am forgetting...

I got into Knives heavily just before Y2K And it became a hobby also. I figured I had the gun bases covered and realized I had good guns and Good knives were a good thing to have so I searched for info and opps - I got it as bad as the gun addiction,

I use different fixed blades for different uses. A small fixed blade is capable of doing A LOT and most fo what one would need. The older I get the smaller my knives seem to be when I actually use em but a quality large blade can do most anything a small blade will AND chop/fight where as a small blade can't do what the big knife can.

Here are a few of my fixed blades.

My last knife show acquisitions even though I was not gonna buy anything but buffer supplies/belts... The smaller fixed blade is one I had been wantin for general field use its a Fehrman Peace Keeper

I have made and sold well over 100 custom knives-
But my "carry" knife for field use is a 40 year old Schrade SharpFinger I got for my 12th birthday.
Will do anything you want done. Unless you are going to be in a real "survival" situation, or field dressing an elephant, a 4" blade will be all you ever need.
Don't confuse today's Chinese Junk Schrades with the old stuff. Would be like comparing a Yugo to a Ferrari.
If I were to buy a knife today, it would be a Russell Green River. I've made a lot of knives using their MADE IN THE USA blades, and they are really nice, nothing fancy, utility knives.
