I see that the legislation was mostly introduced early in 2008 or even carried over from 2007, but somehow gets blamed on the "new" administration. Some people don't see what the current administration has done to our freedoms.

It is against the law in many places to post up the name and address of specific officers. We are dealing with a legal issue on another forum at the moment due to someone doing this. Might want to drop his info off of this.

There is a site you can go on that links the various states that are considering a law like this and read the actual laws. Scares the hell out of me in the long run. I was amazed to see Arizona on the list as they have some of the most liberal gun laws in the country. Many people that seem to be in the know have mentioned that it interferes with interstate commerce which in turn would cause congress to squish it as that is their domain. Be real interesting to see how it starts to roll. Too bad I lost most of my guns and ammo in a boating accident.

There is some truth to this. The people who most want the ammo to be encoded are the ones that manufacture the equipment to do it (and I believe there is only one company). They are the ones getting the legislation introduced by meeting with state legislators they know will be sympathetic to gun control or eradication.

They think encoded ammo will solve crimes really fast because the ammo will lead them right to the perp. I don't know about y'all, but if I decided to "pop a cap in somebody's butt," it sure wouldn't be with the encoded ammo I bought at Walmart last week. Do they think criminals will actually buy ammo to commit an armed robbery? No, they are going to steal it the same place they probably stole the gun.

The only thing I have heard that possibly is an advantage is that in the case of a shootout it would be easier to reconstruct the event and who shot who -- but I thought that was what ballistics and all those red arrows through the dummies were for (too much CSI). I really don't think that is enough of a valid reason to encode ammo, though, and honestly, I really don't know if there is any truth to that at all.

So if you are on the list of states that may have this legislation in the works, contact your reps about it and tell them you are adamantly opposed to it. There are a lot of details about it I don't know, but I don't like the fact that it is being pushed by the manufacturer of the equipment that encodes. Carp, bullets are expensive enough as it is.

I've seen some articles on it and will try to locate them and post links if I can later today, but I suggest if you are interested in it, start googling.

ETA: Also I cannot tell you how much it chaps my hide that they want your RELOADS destroyed by 2011. Arrogant SOBs.

Perceptions when joined with reality, are fueling this...

The socialists have been wanting to enslave Average Joe for around sixty years... and it's awful hard when Joe is armed... so disarm Joe, failing that, take away his ammo.

Bush, I feel, would have vetoed any such bill.

The next administration will welcome it. BHO and the PLP (Progressive Liberal Party) will be powerless to do anything to constructive on the economy... thankfully, the coming recession/depression (whatever) will limit how many more entitlement programs can be created... Banning guns or bullets? Costs nothing? except the ink in the pen to sign it.

I don't trust the man. I don't trust the Party, formerly known as my party called Democrat (of which I am one), to not pass these urban utopian anti-constitutional bills.

When BHO comes out and says that every law abiding American is entitled to however many weapons that he or she wants, tax free, including machine guns, I might say Good Man.

You don't need snopes. I always look stuff up right from the source. I would consider the Illinois General Assembly's website to be a fairly credible source myself. As credible as a website with a dot gov at the end of it can be.

So yes, in a nut shell this isn't made up, at least not in Illinois. I wish it was, but since I live in Wisconsin it doesn't effect me (yet).

Texican, as far as I can tell this is a state by state issue, not a national one. Not saying someday it couldn't go there but as it stands Barrack O'sama has little sway over whether this stuff gets passed or not. I also wouldn't be quite so quick to assume that Bush would be against this, after all this is the same guy who thought whisking people away to secret prisons Gestapo style with no due process was a great idea.

From my understanding of the site information, this is currently a state-by-state issue and has not (yet) reached the federal level but since eradication of Second Amendment rights has been a goal of the leftists for decades, it would not surprise me to see Congress debating something like this soon. Either that or a burdensome tax on ammo.
