Exclamation This is why we practice...

In case you had not heard, a tornado hit downtown Atlanta last night. A full assessment of the damage has not been done yet, but it looks like my employer mostly lucked it. The tornado hit three blocks from our main datacenter and only a business office was damaged that I have heard so far. Once the sun comes up we will have a better assessment of the situation.

It will be curious to see on Monday how many of my proposals and scenarios will be taken more seriously. I worked for NationsBank when the tornado hit downtown Nashville and damage our datacenter there. Most people have laughed when we talk about a tornado hitting Atlanta and people not being able to get to work since the roads are closed from damaged cars, trash, downed streetlights, down trees, etc. We will see how they feel now. Maybe this will be the wake-up call some of senior management needs.

I am hearing that two different buildings are at least partially collapsed and that one of them is residential. Emergency responders are saying they will not be able to do a full check of the structure until the sun is up. I hope no one was killed.

If you are of the praying variety, please send a prayer to anyone who may be trapped and for all the emergency responders who will be risking their lives today searching for people.

Also, as an interesting note, the Georgia Dome was hit and the roof ripped. First response of many if not most people - they thought it was a terrorist attack.

Thanks for the update from someone that it concerns.

It'll be interesting to see the business responses... Hope you'll give us an up date to see if it opened any eyes.

Also, I hope they have tarps over the openings. N. Alabama and Central AL are having heavy Thunderstorms this morning, and I think the heavier ones are about Culman/Birmingham which will put it on the same line as the Atlanta storms of last night.

So far it sounds like we lucked out. It looks like the tornado literally jumped over a couple of blocks and one of those blocks houses the building where our investors work.

Now we just have to keep an eye on traffic, but the city is saying that everything should be cleaned up and ready to go by Monday morning.

I'm a little south of Atlanta and was watching it on the news. What I heard was 20 people injured, structual damage on a hotel. What else happened? That's all I've heard so far.

The office buildings and hotels up and down Peachtree St. had their windows blown out. I am still waiting for a full report on the damage to the SunTrust Tower there at Peachtree St. and West Peachtree St. Streets around the Georgia Dome, Phillips Arena, the CNN Center and Centennial Olympic Park were littered with broken glass, downed power lines, crumbled bricks, insulation and the occasional office chair. Billboards collapsed onto parked cars. A couple of buildings of had partial collapses.
