Pranked

While searching for an issue regarding a camp in Northern Alberta, I happened upon an entertainment segment on a 'prank' played on Paris Hilton involving a mock plan crash situation.

I'm not a fan of Paris Hilton nor would I consider myself to lack a sense of humor but the poor things was scared out of her wits that she was going to die.

I can't post a link to the video because the language would require me to ban myself but I'm curious if those that may have also seen also felt that there was nothing funny at all about scaring someone that badly.

It was all over the news here and I saw parts of the video and it's obvious she was genuinely terrified and traumatized. Everyone else in the plane was in on the prank and knew what was going to happen.

She's going to sue the TV host and the people who own the network. According to announcers who told the story on the news here (who were not amused and were frankly critical of the TV host that pulled the prank), that host has done similar frightening pranks to other people, including other celebrities, but apparently nobody has sued him before.

I'm no fan of Paris Hilton either but nobody, I don't care who they are, deserves to be traumatized and fearing for their life like that for the sake of entertaining TV viewers. If somebody pulled a terrifying stunt like that on me I'd do more than just sue the pants off them. I'd sue but I'd also ensure covertly that something was done to them that was more than equally traumatizing.

I'm somewhat nervous on planes and I quite sure that a stunt like that would be all it would take to convince me to never fly again.

I did read another article about the host and it does seem he gets beat up fairly often after these stunts so maybe being sued will be less painful for him.

This is just my opinion so I'm sure other people would disagree with it. I feel that him being beat up is fruitless and he hasn't learned any lessons from it. It just makes him a victim that gets him more media attention and I bet he hasn't ever feared for his life as a result of a beating. Being sued - well for a person in his position, it's just money to burn, and again it means more media attention for him. The guy needs to learn an abject lesson that will stick with him for the rest of his life, in being truly traumatized and fearing for his own life and publically being made a fool of that doesn't involve a physical beating and doesn't involve money.

I have a pretty good sense of humor, but I don't find humor in 99% of practical jokes. Most of them are sadism or revenge in disguise. Hope she wins her suit.

I haven't seen the video, but I don't think that type of prank is funny. I also don't think it's funny to give someone a fake, winning lottery ticket IMO, those types of pranks are cruel.

Remember when practical jokes were clever? Scaring the daylights out of someone is not funny at all in my opinion. I saw one where they had a guy in a scary clown costume (and a blade of some sort if I remember correctly) ambush people at night and chase them, sometimes in places like lonely parking garages.

How can that possibly be funny?? Also how long before someone carrying kills the 'prankster', I sure as heck would want to.

I agree with the lottery ticket pranks too..not funny, cruel.

Part of the internationalization of media is that humor from other countries cultures are sometimes acceptable there but not elsewhere.
There was a rather infamous Japanese show where jokes that seemed particularly aimed towards scaring the heck out of peopke. One joke was to basically put a cannon next to a person sleeping quietly in their own home then setting it off to waken them. It was held to be very, very funny to see people jump out of their skins at the huge noise. Then the show host would explain and the victim would be soon laughing with the crew.
Would not work well here- someone would end up dead. But in Japan, the desire to accommodate socially overwhelms any anger.

I saw the same video, everything was funny until the prank was pulled on someone that had a gun and nearly shot the idiot with the machete, then it was no longer funny, he almost got killed because of a stupid prank.

I think it was genuinely cruel. But it may have been a good thing for her to see her vapid life flash before her eyes. Maybe she will make some changes.

Not even remotely funny. It was in UAE airspace so I wonder what the law is like there for emotional distress. Women don't have as many rights there as we do so the court may not care that she was traumatized.

Yeah, not a fan of Paris however that's not funny at all, in fact it's downright cruel. Not sure she'll be able to win anything in a UAE court but she should.

Before y'all get too broken up, it's becoming more and more apparent that she was payed quite well for the stunt.

Us magazine, quoting TMZ, I don't think the true story is known yet.

If it really was a prank on Paris, it was mean. If Paris was in on the prank for money, just about as mean.

It doesn't change my life either way.........

It would absolutely not surprise me if she knew and got paid for it.

Speaking of crazy pranks did y'all see the one with the people stuck on a subway with zombies? It amazes me that no one got hurt.

I don't get it. Who was the prank on if she was in on it?

If that's true, she's a much better actor than I thought and her momma should have fed her soap for supper.
