Night Light Map of US

See link below......

Curiosity got me to check out this map of light patterns in the US.
I did manage to see the three local towns but they are pretty much in the middle of no light areas.
One thing that was interesting is the number of lights strung in straight lines out east. Along roads? Along railroads?
Anyway it's obvious that avoiding development means finding places not along these roads or railways.

Couldn't get the site to come up - may be my awful internet server.

I've seen maps like that before and that's one thing that makes me sad about moving away from Arizona's beautiful, ever changing skies. It's so clear, dark and peaceful here at night.

The URL isn't entered quite right.

I still live in a dark area. The nearest pinpoint light that shows on the map is a town 40 miles to the south of us.
What I find interesting is all the flares in western North Dakota/eastern MT. There really is just this constant glow at night...

Check out the waters along the TX/LA/MS gulf coast. Drilling rig/platforms, I presume.

I left N Texas for MO last year. I don't think I had seen the milky way in years. I don't think I am totally free of city light even out here. Springfield is not far enough away for my taste. But the difference is, uh, night and darker night.

Our place in MO is in one of the larger dark areas in south central MO.

The night sky is a wonder to look at there!

Not so much, here in Houston.
