I hope this is not out of line, moderators???
I noticed that the thread about corn pricing if gm and glyphosate etc. were banned, got tossed. Usually there is some form of explanation. I am disappointed, because I truly thought we were having a civil conversation on that topic, and was really enjoying the dialogue. Just wondering what happened. IE. How can we chat about stuff, if we get shut down?
Unless someone was unruly, perhaps I missed that?
I do not mean ill will here, just curious of the reasoning???
I DO NOT mean to put the moderators in a negative light. My intention is just to get an honest answer. Thank you!

Anyone? Is this out of line to ask about? Any moderators care to help us out and explain so that we as posters know what to avoid in the future? It is obviously not just me who wonders. It is just that an explanation for these things would be helpful and fine. But with no explanation, it looks kind of shady. KWIM?
Again, thanks!

If the tread was deleted, it occurred due to excessive text fighting between participants. If some members were banned that indicates that the admin infraction system saw them with the points for excessive on board behavior to suspend their HT accounts.
GMO is one of the topics that tend to give birth to excessive fighting.
So if a thread has been deleted it is because after removal of all the over HT limit content it was too thread bare to be restored and if any participants have been banned from HT after a thread deletion they simply accumulated the required infractions that the infraction system uses to trigger banning of the member

Read the OP again. He DID NOT say that a member or poster on the thread was banned. The b word was used in the title of the original post that was locked.

It is just locked. That is all that is necessary. Was locked for some reason, and that is it. If notice was not given, that is the mods business.

I think I did the deleting and I normally do make a comment but life is pretty hectic up here right now with spring calving and the return if winter. There is no need to comment further on why but it had nothing to do with any bias or my desire to interfere with exchange of information.
Exchange information, share ideas, express opinions but keep it nice and threads stay open.

I guess my question is because when we do not know why threads are locked, how are we to better these forums? If someone would say, I locked the thread because.... "Gerald swore at Tommy", or whatever, it would be helpful to us posters so that we could watch for future reference what to avoid doing.
Yes it is up to the moderators, but why not help us out by explaining what went wrong, when it looks to several of us like it was nothing?
Thanks for the efforts to respond, but the question remains unanswered IMO. Makes it feel like a secret society or something!!! lol!

After cleaning it up a couple times, the secret society held a meeting under the cover of darkness and decided that even if we sacrificed a non GMO fattened goat, the thread was still at the point where it required a full time sitter.
Full time sitters are not in the budget so much to the goats delight, we opted to lock the thread.

It was in the general forum instead of down here.
I didn't expect to last as long as it did up there.

You need to put in a separate area for geo. So they can argue there instead.

Do we get notified if we get points against us? Is there some place we can check on out status? For all I know I am on double secret probation and it's so secret I don't even know about it.

Wow. I must be slipping. A topic about Monsanto and Bt that went on for 4 pages and I didn't say a peep.

Yep, there is a PM that goes to you, but depending upon the whim of the moderator, the points against you may expire or they might cling to you for some time.
I'm not sure exactly sure what constitutes an infraction so grievous that points count in perpetuity.

From my experience it depends on who the Moderator is.
About 7 years ago, I posted information about the deadly Avian Influenza being spread from small backyard flocks to humans and the large commercial flocks hadn't been a problem. I got banned and haven't seen the Poultry Section since.
Around the World people are battling livestock diseases, but many people want to ignore it until it is on our doorstep. Like the swine disease PEDv that several countries have had for years. Suddenly, it is here and no one here knows how to control it. FMD is a real bad one, sure hope we don't get it back in this country, again. But Avian Influenza continues to mutate. But if you are the Poultry Moderator, you can help insure no one here knows about it.
