Any other areas having this "powering down" challenge?

Our Monday evening news slated a technology power down challenge for 16 hours this Thursday challenging folks to pledge off their smart phone and tablet jacked in time to see how social media addicted folks in the area are.

I wonder if this just a local event or something like the smoke out cigarette quit challenges.

I guess I already win since I don't have a smartphone or a tablet (I threw the one given to me last year in the trash dumpster 10 minutes after she gave it to me and I headed home).

Also mostly the only time I do any online social media stuff is when I am killing time while waiting for my work related graveyard shift processes to run and complete. I don't even check my email except a couple times a month mostly to delete the accumulated trash unless I get a phone call asking me to check something one of my former coworkers has sent me to review

So is your areas having power down challenges this week?

First I have heard of it.

Here they want us to "power down" electricity and heating, to conserve, during the severe cold.

Social media actually makes me closer to many, including my own kids at times. I' m sure many would agree. Like any addiction, it becomes a problme, if it negatively effects other aspects of life.

Visitng HT is probably the site, I visit too much.

Shrek, think they will turn off the transmitter at the tv station?
Ya know, like a drug dealer challenging his users to stop shooting up?
