And yet another reason for a backyard coop!!

Seriously? After this they will send them off to China for processing, oh boy!!
I know I can't wait to go out to get KFC, or any other store bought chicken products now!!

http://www.foodandwaterwatch.org/pre...chicken-parts/

and for those who may not like that site,,,

https://www.google.com/search?q=chic...a&channel=fflb

Pick one.

Before anyone jumps in claiming it's been going on since '99, yes it has, as a pilot test program. These regs, about to go into effect, really let the fox in the hen house, so to speak, industry wide.

What the... That's so bass-ackwards.
I can't wait to get our meat chicken coop running. I need to eat more chicken for my health but we get half a cow or more from my father in law of positively PRIME beef so it's been hard especially with stuff like this going on!

I found rabbits much easier to deal with than those meat chickens, and they are delicious.

Oh man... I strongly considered rabbits for a breed/eat program when I was keeping Boas. Now we only have cornsnakes and mice.

Would you mind sending me a PM with some information about you and your rabbits??? I'm extremely interested.

Our city won't allow backyard egg hens, let alone meat coops. I am trying to convince my husband that a rabbit hutch could go on the front stoop in the summer and in our front room in the winter.

This is gone too far. It's hard enough for me to check out all of the food/treats I have to go thru for pets(rescue donations) to find out if something is made in China. Even if I call a company because it is "distributed' by a US company, they still can't say if an ingredient comes from China. I won't buy fish from outside the country already.

For some reason I can't send a pm. My rabbits are new zealand whites. I keep 3 does and 2 bucks. I got them from a local breeder I found on craigslist. They keep us in meat for the freezer. It's just like chicken. The kits are small and I am sure the snakes would have plenty of food from a couple of does. Seeing as how you are in SC, florida whites might be a better choice as they tolerate heat.
Rabbits are way more quiet than chickens! In a neighborhood nobody would know they were there.

My parent raised NZ whites and had good luck with them, they've also gotten rabbits from people trying to de-colonize a horse property.

Sometimes if you go to a feedstore the monday after Easter, bunnies can be had by the dozen for a song. ( I am exagerating some, but only just a little). A word of caution, some bigger stores like Tractor Supply and D&B will only stock spayed/neutered rabbits.

I think this is a mistake but I do think it will happen that is why many people wanted to label products where it was raised, where processed years ago.

We live in a global community but I still do not trust the food coming from China.

If you can raise it yourself if not buy local (county/state) and then North American.

After several years of buying from a neighbor I am going to raise my own meat birds this year. I already raise our own eggs. Instead of a retirement plaque to hang on a wall I asked for a flock of chickens.

You might consider quail then.

I know of a person on this site- haven't heard from her in a while- but she lives in a nearby town with extreme restrictions and raises meat rabbits in her garage. No one knows they are there!

Alot of our salmon is processed in China instead of Alaska. I looked at the forzen salmon at Walmart, and right on the back of the bag it says processed in China. China doesn't have Salmon ...... so it's a fact they came from our waters and sent there for processing.
Even all the talapia fillets at Walmart say in the packages 'farm raised in China'.
We can't even catch and process our own fish anymore ??? WTH is wrong with this country ??
