Good bye Jim Beam

Now that Jim Beam (and Makers Mark) has sold out to a Japanese company I'm going to have switch bourbons. So for the other bourbon drinkers out there, which brand do you like? I'm guessing the obvious choice would be Jack Daniels, but I'm interested in what others may think is good. Thanks

I was reading about this today. They are saying the new company wants to keep things the same and not change anything. They just want to build up to produce more.

Back when they were thinking about watering down Makers because of a shortage, they ended up not because the customers weighed in..

No need to switch unless something changes with the product.

I stopped drinking any jack after they changed it and lowered the proof.. The flavor changed quite a bit.

We drink Makers some.. Bookers even more, and Woodford Reserve the most.

I like my Rye Whiskey by Bulleit. They also make an American Frontier whiskey which is good.

Don't know if they still make it, but there used to be a Yellowstone Mellow Mash bourbon that was really good. Also, McCormick Distillery here in Missouri makes a good bourbon, I think they have spring water.

I always liked Jack Daniels better than Jim Beam, but sorry to see another great old American company go multi-national.

I've been considering that as well. Could be a good investment.

JD was my favorite, but haven't had one for close to three years...just gave up drinking hard stuff one day.
Second was either Yukon Jack or Rebel Yell...never cared for Beam...just me 'tho.

Makers Mark distillery is just up the road from here but the first we found out they were sold was on the news last night. We knew Beam was a done deal though. For our part we hope all our neighbors get to keep working. Many are coming close to retirement and how this sale effects their future is open for questions I suppose.

I really can't handle hard liquor much, but I am fond of locally made (legal) moonshine. There's a guy who opened up a shop right in town, and his stuff is smooth for being 100 proof. It's expensive, but a bottle will last me a couple years.

Henry McKenna its smoother than Beam and a whole lot less expensive. Wild Turkey 101 when they have a good sale. But its got a pretty good bite!

2nd for Knob Creek.
Smoother and more character than Maker's, and only a couple dollars more per bottle.

Jim Beam has always been one of my favorite bourbons. I'm sure it will have a different flavor now though. I keep Jack Daniels in the house, too as well a some good Irish whiskey.
I guess I'll just have to try a few different brands to find another one I like.

Why would anything change other than the direction of the money stream. Sometimes things improve if it gives the company access to more capital for improvements or expansion.

If you want an American made /American owned make your own or buy from the local moonshiner.

Same thing for beer and wine.
