Explanation why saving from Youtube now a problem?

Just wondering if anyone here has noticed that things that were pretty recently save-able from the web are no longer save-able? Specifically, I've noticed this with Youtube.

I used to download & save instructional and music videos from YT. I obtained a lot of 3 - 8-minute technical videos this way, which I've kept on my harddrive. Now the little icon at the left side of my URL (internet address) window doesn't' show up, and this indicates that a file isn't available for saving. I've noticed it when I've tried saving music vids from sources that used to be available on YT.

I hadn't been doing any video saving for the last week or 10 days. It seems like the change (with Youtube, anyway) probably happened in roughly that amount of time.

Know anything about it?

Not sure about that one. Seems more and more youtube videos have advertisements and they may not want to lose that ad revenue. I do still download songs from Youtube videos.

Thanks, poppy. When you say you download music, do you mean that you download and save? Or just "download" in the sense of listening?

Download and save. I don't care for much new stuff but it is a great resource for old songs you can't find anymore. Send me a message and I'll tell how I do it.

People (including myself) often enjoy listening to music in their house, which is where most people have their internet router. I also use the web for other things - Youtube being one of my important online resources. I've learned a lot of fine points of welding (MIG) and steel forming (oxy-acetylene) from videos guys have posted on Youtube.

My shop is too far from the router. So I like to put the vids onto my harddrive when I'm in my house (where my router & wireless signal is), because that enables me to take my laptop out to my shop and watch whatever part of the vid I need to as I'm learning. Audio-visual instruction in front of me, tools in-hand.
