America's Got Talent?

How can we call it that when someone who lives in Japan and isn't an American citizen wins this year's show?

BTW, I wouldn't have been watching it to know if wasn't for my wife caught up in it.

He was good no doubt about that. I look for him to have a show of his own.

I admit that I enjoy talent shows, in varying degrees. I've learned to tune out all of the drama and chatter from performances. AGT is something else, though. They were airing 7 hours a week, most of it being a re-run of some sort. Since there were 12 acts at 90 seconds each, that's a lot fo fluff for 18 minutes of true content.

I thought the Japanese guy was amazing. We import everything else these days; why not talent?

I thought he was really creative, and he's got some cool moves, but he's not a dancer... Some of his dancing is really clunky and unrefined... as far as skill, I thought there were some others this year that were better.... He had something original is what I think got him to win..

The singers probably have the best chance of having lasting careers. Cami was my favorite. I didn't expect her to win, but she's the one I'd most likely go to see or buy a CD.

I haven't watched the show so I had to look it up, but according to this he's lived in the US since 1994.

Also, looks like the AGT rules say legal residency is ok. Remember, 50% of the judging panel is European

hhhm.... that's interesting, because last night on the show they showed him talking to his wife and daughter on Skype in Japan and he said he couldn't wait to get home to see them.. .

I did bring that up to my wife about even judges aren't citizens..

I get we're a melting pot, but the show is seeming to take on the fact it's not as American as it claims to be... I know there were other act from other countries that were in at the start too.. I know one traveled here from Brazil, and I think another from somewhere in Africa..

The title is America's Got Talent not Americans got Talent..as long as you are a resident you can compete. I find it a little offensive that the great melting pot country is so prejudicial after all this time. The judges live and pay taxes in the US just like any other resident.

Actaully only 1 judge is American....

Also a lot of countries do not recognize children as being citizens unless they are born in their home country, I know many people who have gone home to India to have their kids so their citizenship is not a question, and many people who plan to raise their kids culturally will do so as Kenichi is their kids spend the first few years in their homeland to absorb the culture properly otherwise they will always be considered outsiders

We watched it and thought he'd probably win all along. But he wasn't our favorite. Those judges absolutely went nuts over him and apparently had a big impact on the votes. My wife loved Forte and I thought Cami should have won.

I do kind of agree that if people come here from other countries just to compete, they should probably rename the show or change the rules.

Well.. seems some want it both ways.. So many are yelling and screaming how America is so dependent on the world, and how we can't support ourselves, and how we're shipping off our jobs all over the world..

But then when I bring up a point about a show with the word America in the title isn't seeming so American.. well that's ok.. since it's entertainment...

Seems to me it's pounding into the minds of all the drone citizens that being International while claiming American is ok...

I couldn't really give a rats butt about the show one way or another, I'm just bringing up some ironicness about it...

People have to realize that the other judges live and pay taxes here in the USA because it is cheaper than being taxed in their homelands, however the same does not work for US Citizens living in other countries they can/will be taxed by the Gov't even if they do not reside in the USA....

How about the Nascar race Daytona 500?
That has been dubbed for years as "The GREAT AMERICAN RACE".
And for the last three years or more, Toyota has been competing.
America is NOT the lone country it used to be, and just because the word America is used in some title, it should not be just for Americans either.

Well.. as far as Toyota goes.. Yes, it's a Japanese company, but they do now have an American branch, and they do produce cars here in America now giving Americans jobs assembling cars here..

Yeah, it's not an original American brand, but at least it's not strictly an imported brand..

The world has become global.. but it seems the media keeps pushing the boundaries on what American is..

I guess it's the same for foreign entertainers who come here. They generate money here so become American 'Brands'
