Shellie Zimmerman trial starts tomorrow
I just visited the Seminole County court website, and Shellie Zimmerman's trial is still scheduled to start tomorrow. If you recall, the charges stem from false statements she made regarding funds in a paypal account. Here is a screen capture from the court website. Note that the Court Date is 08-21-2013.

I'm with Tricky on this one Nevada . . .
Unless she is somehow 'related' to George Z.-
just not seeing it. (Even if she was related, it still wouldn't matter.)

She is his wife. The charges stem from a question by the judge as to how much money they had when setting bond for her husband. She apparently didn't disclose some money that had been raised for her husband's defense on the internet and deposited in a Paypal account. There has been some discussion as to whether she actually had access to that money at the time or if the fundraisers controlled it. Doesn't matter. She will get a fine at the most.

Can you tell me exactly how much money you have at any point in time?
My online account shows an "available" balance and an "actual" balance, which are sometimes several hundred dollars apart.
I just checked my retirement account through work and realize I had $5K more than I thought I did.
Define "money". Are assets money?
If someone asked me, How much money do you have?", Could I honestly answer "none" if I didn't have any in my immediate possession?
How much change do you have on your dresser? In a piggy bank? In your koi pond?
Don't forget that coin collection from your childhood.
Yeah, this strikes me as a "witch hunt". It's the same thing they do when they force you to testify, you make technically false statements and they prosecute for that rather than what they were trying to get to the bottom of.

The smoking gun was a taped conversation she had with George while he was in jail. They actually discussed not being honest about the money in the paypal account. There was quite a lot of money in that account.
Indications are that she plans to claim that the paypal account was specifically donated for George's legal defense, so she didn't consider it to be their money or available for bail.

Still, how many of these cases ever get prosecuted? It's just sour grapes.

She may well have honestly thought that, in which case she did not lie. I would have thought such money was to only go for the upcoming hefty lawyer fees myself.

Yes, report it and be prosecuted for using the funds in a way the givers did not anticipate (fraud?).
Don't report and be prosecuted for "false statements".
She should have just pleaded the fifth.

I don't think that was an option. She could have refused to answer the questions, but the goal was to get her husband out of jail. If she didn't answer he wouldn't get the low bail they wanted.

Why should they consider the money that was donated as theirs? It's not like the donators said, "Here is some money, take a nice vacation." It wasn't theirs to keep, it was to pay someone ELSE with. It was to become someone ELSE"S personal income.
