The country's airlines and some lawmakers have suggested the White House is causing misery for fliers to put pressure on Republicans in Congress to rescind the cuts. They say the FAA is ignoring other ways to cut its $16 billion budget. Two airline trade associations and the nation's largest pilots union filed a lawsuit Friday asking the U.S. Court of Appeals to halt the furloughs. No hearing date has been set.

FAA officials have said they have no choice but to furlough all 47,000 agency employees, including nearly 15,000 air traffic controllers. Each employee will lose one day of work every other week. The FAA has said that planes will have to take off and land less frequently, so as not to overload the remaining controllers on duty.

Critics have said the FAA could reduce its budget in other spots that wouldn't delay travelers.

I do believe that the sequester cuts have been intentionally made to have the most visibility and impact on the public. Heaven forbid the government's obscene outflow of money goes down by 10% and nobody even notices!!

Another cut that I haven't seen make the news, surprisingly, is that people receiving "federal extension" unemployment benefits have had their benefits cut by 10.7%.

There is usually a big air show in Kansas City in the summer, featuring the Blue Angels. The Angel's exhibition budget was part of the sequester cuts. The air show has now been canceled. No fly-overs for sporting events, either.

You will never convince me that 10% couldn't have been shaved out of the budget in such a way that most people wouldn't even notice. They WANT it to hurt.

I agree... especially since they are not cutting spending.... just the amount of proposed increases! These depts are still getting 90 percent of their raises.

It really upset me that the blue angels were cut...I've seen them many times and I am amazed at them each and every time I see them.

Be interesting to note whether the scheduled flights
for Airforce 1 are cut back by 10% or not . . .
my guess is that it will still be pimping for the fundraisers!
