Alvin Lee has died

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-207_162-...er-dies-at-68/

Quote:
The Nottingham, England-born Lee founded the band Ten Years After in 1967. The group first toured the U.S. in 1967, but its popularity exploded following Lee's rousing performance of the song "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock in 1969. Lee's epic and electrifying solos on his Gibson guitar for the 11-minute performance were immortalized in the documentary film about the legendary festival.

Ten Years After released ten albums together featuring the group's mix of blues, swing jazz and rock and toured the U.S. 28 times in seven years.

Lee left the band in 1975 to embark on a successful solo career that saw him recording with the likes of George Harrison, Steve Winwood and Mick Fleetwood and experimenting with different styles of country rock, rhythm and blues.

I saw Ten Years After perform at the Texas International Pop Festival in 1969. Great band. RIP Alvin.

Oh what a shame. Alvin Lee never got as much recognition from the public as Clapton, Page and some of his other contemporaries but he was right up there with them for talent. I never got to see Ten Years After in concert. SteveD, you are lucky to have had that experience.

Yea I do consider myself fortunate to see most of the great rock bands of the '60s and early '70s in concert. I was in a band myself then and really into concerts. Saw the Beatles, Hendrix, the Who, Cream, Stones, the Doors, Zepplin, plus at least a dozen others at the Pop Festival including Janis Joplin, Santana, etc.. Stevie Ray's big brother Jimmie was in a local band then called the Chessmen - when he was a fifteen year-old prodigy they opened for Hendrix.
