Concealed carry in college, help

Trying to find a college that allows concealed carry for my god-daughter. She is in her third year and last month she was assaulted near her dorm on the way back from her job. It was a violent assault, she spent some time in the hospital. She has handled it well mentally and is ready to continue her education but she has decided she does not want to go where she is not allowed to protect herself, this college does not allow pepper spray either. The college does have security and after the assault her parents wanted to know why they were not there until after the local PD and EMS showed up. Their answer was well you can't expect us to be everywhere..

She has a concealed carry permit and is a very proficient shooter. Any help with college recommendations would be appreciated as we are having a hard time finding any real info..

I'm not sure, but I think the GFSZ would prohibit that in the whole nation.

I doubt any college would want armed students.
Every student faces these same concerns. Most universities explain ways to avoid assault when the students arrive. Don't walk around alone, stay in public well lit, populated areas, etc, etc.
I am very pro-gun. But a campus with students with conceled weapons is no safer than pistols at a High School Football game. Not a good idea. IMHO.

That is the answer we have been receiving, not good. She has an incredibly high grade, winner of many awards and truly loved the learning, but if no college can be found she is adamant in not returning and I don't blame her. She is a strong independent woman and told the counselor from the college that she is not going to place her life and well being in the hands of an organization that seems to be deficient in their ability to provide a safe environment.

If this was an isolated event she said it might be different but it is more the norm.

Yep, all that worked well for her. She is a very street savvy young woman, who has not lived a sheltered life.

Not sure what your daughter's major is, but at Southwest Baptist in Ft. Worth, TX concealed carry is allowed. In fact, according to a staff member who is a member of our family, about 1/3 of the professors carry.

In 2011, 18 states introduced legislation to allow concealed carry weapons on campus in some regard. Two bills passed, one in Mississippi and one in Wisconsin. The Mississippi legislation creates an exception to allow those who have taken a voluntary course on safe handling and use of firearms by a certified instructor to carry on campuses.

As an update, just talked to my god-daughter and she is discussing entering the military. They had talked to her last year and are now offering her OCS, I think she will go this route. She has an excellent grasp of Farsi plus 4 other languages. I am thinking that this may be her best bet..

Sorry. I guess I made some false assumptions? So she was with someone in a well lit, populated area? I do not in any way want to suggest that she brought this violence on herself.
I have a close friend that is a Dean of Students at a major University and deals with disipline and violence investigations every day. Some folks have unreal expectations of what the university could do and need to reduce their risks.

I wish her the best of luck. I hope it is everything she hopes it is. My son joined the Air Force and it was a good thing.

But, I'm fairly sure they aren't allowed to CCW on Base.

No I'm sure you don't, that isn't the way things are done.. Nobody blames the victim first do they.. I sure don't have unreal expectations of security on campus there basically isn't any.

She will do well, she comes from a military family and has lived pretty much all over the world.

Worked on a lot of bases in my time and seems like the security is a bit higher there.. Unless you get shot by some military psychiatrist..

"26 colleges currently allow concealed carry on campus, including all public universities in Utah and multiple college campuses in Colorado, totaling over 70 campuses."

Before deciding on Colorado, she may need to wait and see if this passes. Some of this law bans college carry in Colorado.

There are exceptions written into the law.

(l)This section does not apply to a duly appointed peace officer as
defined in Chapter 4.5 (commencing with Section 830) of Title 3 of
Part 2, a full-time paid peace officer of another state or the
federal government who is carrying out official duties while in
California, any person summoned by any of these officers to assist
in making arrests or preserving the peace while he or she is
actually engaged in assisting the officer, a member of the military
forces of this state or of the United States who is engaged in the
performance of his or her duties, a person holding a valid license
to carry the firearm pursuant to Article 3 (commencing with Section
12050) of Chapter 1 of Title 2 of Part 4, or an armored vehicle
guard, engaged in the performance of his or her duties, as defined
in subdivision (e) of Section 7521 of the Business and Professions
Code.

There are the usual exemptions for law enforcement, military, armored vehicle guards and licensed CCW.
As written, the reference to "school district superintendent" suggests this applies to K-12 and possibly Community Colleges, since those have "districts".

God-daughter is attending a college in the east but has no problem moving, hopefully we will help her find an avenue that meets her needs. Thank you all. The search will continue..
