Reacher Movie
I enjoy reading the Reacher books for enjoyment(I read a lot of history, tech subjects)...New movie out with Tom Cruise....are you kidding me-a wimp shrimp playing a guy described in every book as 6'4"-240-hands as big as hams....Does Hollyweird realize people actually read books?

I thought the same thing. They couldn't have chosen a worse actor to play Reacher. I'll probably still see the movie eventually. I haven't read the last few books because the last few I did read were going downhill. I think Lee Child started using crappy ghostwriters to crank them out.

I agree with the choice of actors. I just started the latest book so haven't formed an opinion, but didn't care for the one before this (Affair). I hadn't thought of ghost writers -- I just thought he might have milked the Reacher cow to a drying point.

I am always disappointed if I read the book then see the movie. In my mind as I am reading, I see the story and it never seems to be the way the Producer/director of the film sees it.
That Clive Cussler movie a few years ago was nowhere near what I had imagined.
But yeah, Tom Cruise wasn't the best choice. Perhaps Dwayne Johnson or someone 'larger than life'.

That all depends on if they used Little people to play the other people.

I sent his publisher an e-mail saying I would be glad to proofread/CORRECT his lack of knowledge concerning firearms-never got back to me-I told them for FREE ...My favs-"he hit the safety on the Glock"......."I choose the Beretta because the bullet hit harder than the Glock"-both described as equal barrel 9mms....I like the fact his character is really free-buy clothes and throw old ones away,etc..

I suggest you NEVER, NEVER, NEVER see a movie based on a book you have read the book and really love unless you enjoy being completely disappointing.
I can count the number of movies I've seen which kept even close to the book they were "based on" on one hand and have fingers left over.

Agreed. I haven't seen the movie, don't know if I will, but I have read all the Reacher books and just can't put Tom Cruise in Reacher's shoes. There's just something wrong with that image.

I hate when they rack the slide of the same pistol in every new scene.

I like that about him, too. That's how I am when I travel...right down to the folding toothbrush.

I watched the movie. i enjoyed it. I had read that tthose that read the book, expected a big powerful guy. But Cruise has played plenty of larger than life roles.
Would you have prefered Gerard Depardieu? I just watched him in "My Afternoons with Margueritte"
I once read the book "Eat, Pray, Love." Then I saw the movie. I disliked them both, equally.

My wife and I reacted the same way as most of you when we heard that Tom Cruise had been cast - "That little guy?" But in watching the movie the big incongruities for me were the lack of references to Reacher's military mindset (as contrasted to the way civilians think) and his analysis of opponents and tactics during hand-to-hand fight scenes. Both of these are incorporated in the character's internal monologue in the books, and that makes them hard to bring into a screen adaptation, but without those elements the narrative seemed flat and the character obnoxious and one-dimensional - just another brawling vigilante.
We have read most of the Reacher novels - all we have found at used bookstores - plus one paperback I bought new, "The Killing Floor." That was a new edition which included a forward by the author, Lee Child, explaining where the character came from and how he approached writing the novels. Well worth reading, IMO.
