Thumbs down Still Not Seeing It?

Ok yesterday was going hunting.Went by Local Food Pantry, the Doors were not to open until 8:30AM,I go by at 5:00AM and there is already a line.

Unemployment figures came out for the State.Unemployment had went down but there had been thousands of Jobs lost durring this period.

The new figures for the month do not include the people that have run out of unemployment or gave up on looking for a job.

You and I and all of the normal folk don't define 'unemployment' the same way that the BLS does.

In October, they were saying the true unemployment is 14.7%... So I'd say 15% is probably pretty realistic... or higher..

Unkle loves it when people drop off of lists so they don't have to be counted...

BTW, that 15% works out to be somewhere around 45 million people....

I've been unemployed for a year and a half and I don't show up on any of those lists

I was in a year-to-year contract at my old job. I moved across the country at the end of my contract year, and was unable to obtain a job here. However all my co-workers who were told "we're not renewing your contract" were also ineligible to file for any kind of unemployment, because they were not fired or laid off (technically) - if you have a year-to-year contract and your employer chooses not to renew your contract, you don't qualify for squat (which of course is why that company does it that way).

There are a LOT more people who are unemployed due to shenanigans like this than you will ever see reported on a guberment list.

Unemployment figures don't mean any fewer people are still OUT OF WORK. It just means that unemployment quit paying out for this one and that one. DH's unemployment ends on the 29th. No idea what we will do but oh well. He's been looking for work the entire time, even jobs that pay 75% less than his govt job did.

Well, give that we now have over 47 million on food stamps, that sounds accurate.

I could be off, but I just used whole numbers... 300 million people and 15% of them... Granted, not all 300 million people are able to work, but hey.. if Unkle can twist numbers, I should be allowed to do the same thing too

If we simply used the per centage of emplyed people in the US versus those not emplyed (whether looking for work or not,) then changes in that number would be more meaningful.

Got to agree how do we get these numbers?

It exists but I'll have to look around to see if I can find it. I was frankly hoping someone would already have a site with a graph showing the changes. Lazy but also shows what faith I have in people here.

Wonder what happens when the jobs leave and the unemployment checks run out?

Mile after mile of this. Sandy may have washed parts of New Jersey into the ocean. It will take years to rebuild. But the Depression has washed Detroit into the gutter, never to return

Thus there is an oportunity for 3 million NEW business owners. If just a few of them say a 3000 a week turned to themself and if 1 percent made it that would be 30 new businesses --1560 a year --I am using very low numbers but how dependent people are in relying on the "greedy rich man" to provide a job. --Job dependency is the norm. Yet slam the brave soles that dare and make it and complain how they run their business. --How do you feel when someone tells you how to run your house.
