learned something new about uncle teddy

Nugent went to great lengths to avoid serving in the Army and continue his music career. When he got his draft notice at age 18, he had 30 days before his physical, which was plenty of time for him to deteriorate his condition. He immediately stopped bathing and shaving, and started eating only unhealthy foods. A week before the physical, he stopped using the bathroom and just went in his pants. Never a drug user, he snorted some lines of crystal meth. When he showed up for the physical, he was a complete mess, telling High Times in a 1977 interview, "I was a walking, talking hunk of human s--t. I made gutter swine hippies look like football players."

The ruse worked, as Nugent passed out when they put the needle in his arm for the blood test, and proved that he was clearly not fit to serve. He was classified 4-F, not acceptable under "physical, mental, or moral standards." Nugent said that he would have been great in the Army, but he had better things to do. He had a relationship with a 17-year old Hawaiian girl when he was 30. He became her legal guardian in order to comply with laws regarding relationships with minors.

Things like this don't surprise me, but he isn't the only one who 'had other priorities' during Vietnam, or used influence to not have to go.

I have to give the benefit of the doubt to "draft dodgers".

Who is to say that many of them were not onto the game and, by conscience, could not step forward to volunteer as mercenaries for hire to kill for oil and steel conglomerates ?

This is old news, and since then he has described that as his "shameful acts" during the Vietnam War. He has readily admitted what he did and is rightfully ashamed. I won't hold that against him.

On the other hand, I'm still hoping Hanoi Jane dies before I do and is not cremated. If that happens, I'm planning on taking a wizz on her grave during daylight hours even if I have to hitchhike and walk across country to get to the cemetery. They could put an electric fence around her and I'd still let it rip.

From talking to others so inclined, I suspect the grounds crew is going to have a very difficult time getting grass to grow over the .

Interesting responses.

Altering one's values, just to support an agenda.

Where have we seen that happen before?

If my sons had been old enough, I would have done all I could to keep them from going, and don't get uptight about others who didn't - except ----

I don't care if it is Mrs. Clinton's son, Mrs. Bush's son, Mrs. Cheney's son, Mrs. Gore's son, or my son. I can't find fault. What I can find fault with, however, is their being allowed be in a position to order others into war when they, themselves, found other ways out.
When I see Americans dying in Iraq/Afghanistan, and anywhere else they can stir up trouble', I remember during Vietnam, Pres. Bush hid out in Texas, Mr. Cheney 'had other priorities' (so he said), Mr. Gore went for a few months (with bodyguards, I understand), and Pres. Clinton 'just didn't like the military'. All of those people later had a part in orderingr others to war and death -
All the flag waving, blustering, strutting around about war and ordering others to war and death, for no good reason, when they refused is what bothers me.

He didn't take his physical at the same place I did. If you could breath and see daylight and hear thunder you got accepted. We had several that passed out when they took their blood so they finished on the flour.

If so, I stand corrected - provided we are being honest.

It's amusing how so many people on the left take a simplistic view of a situation and think they know what is going on in someone else's mind.

I am a Christian and believe everyone sins but can repent and be forgiven.

What Nugent did was reprehensible and shameful, and he has said as much himself. His words and deeds since then show a sincere appreciation for our military men and women, part of which he says is to help make up for his "shameful actions" during the Vietnam War.

By his words and actions I believe he is genuinely sorry he did that. I have done things in the past I am not particularly proud of now and I am grateful that people and God are willing to forgive me. I am willing to give him the same consideration regardless of his political leanings.

Yeah, who knew that a lot of your descriptions on Kennedy are equally applicable to Nugent.....

well, so goes the day I suppose.

But except for this site, I never see Nugent anywhere, so I guess irrelevant is really irrelevant.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but didn't we have a past president that was a draft dodger. I believe his initials are Bill Clinton...Also heard stories of his drug use and womanizing but that is just hearsay...At least Nugent isn't a member of congress or a past president.
