Texas schools have armed teachers, administrators.

"David Thweatt, superintendent of the tiny Harrold school district in northwest Texas, believes his staff is ready. Besides special locks and security cameras, an undisclosed number of staff members and teachers carry concealed handguns. Thweatt said the "guardian plan," which drew international attention when it was implemented in 2008, definitely enhances student safety."

I'd like to see some armed teachers in every school and a group of armed fathers and grandfathers around the outside of the school.

That would be a cheap way of upgrading school security. Gun free school zones need to be modified to allow CCW. It might be a good time to revisit the federal CCW law that was attempted before. Those states that deny self-protection to their own residents might derive some protection from visitors with a CCW.

Imagine the surprise of gang bangers in tourist areas when the prey isn't prey. The feds need to stop subverting Darwin. Here's a link to the newspaper article to protect any repressive progressive or liberal from being traumatized by seeing Free Republic.

A police chief suggest arming teachers.
"St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch says it is time to talk about arming civilian school personnel following Friday’s massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, comparing it to arming airline pilots after September 11, 2001.

“I see it no differently,” he said. “Pilots have been armed now for many many years, we’ve not had another hijacking and the issue is, for the bad guy, he doesn’t know which airplane he’s getting on, if the pilot is armed or not.”
Fitch said the killing will not be stopped by legislation or laws. “If there’s somebody that’s really hellbent on doing something like this, they’re not going to care what the law is.”"

I REALLY like the anonymity of this.....A person goes through a little stiffer background investigation to obtain a CCW. This sort of "plan" allows the individual staff to make the decision to arm themselves or not. I oppose a blanket "teachers will be required to arm themselves" but still provide a buffer against random violence. Nothing can "harden a target" quite like having to decide "which" door/classroom has a surprise inside....

Not only that but schools need to be hardened to make it more difficult for unlawful entry by nut cases. Other that shut down in place and remote monitoring and entry, schools aren't really protected. Allowing teachers with CCW to carry on school property would be a quick and cheap option to provide immediate protection.

Let's make choosing either doors 1, 2 or 3 potentially an exercise in Darwinism.

I saw on the news that the Sandy Point school policy says the Principle shall go out and confront the gunman.

This is a very stupid policy, since the Principle in that school is unarmed. She did go out to confront the gunman, and she is dead.

My children's high school had a security guard on duty, and he WAS armed. Perhaps more schools should do the same!

There has been an exception made for airline pilots. Why not teachers? Airplanes and schools seem to be the favorite targets for lunatics with guns, explosives, and box cutters.
