Store Surveys/Customer Comment Cards

I just finished completing several department store surveys that enter you into a drawing. I'm just curious how many of you take the time to do these? Has anyone ever won any of the drawings?

I also completed a survey card on a restaurant we visited yesterday. The manager may not like what I wrote. We overheard what sounded like two male employees loudly talking about getting drunk and partying and they were using foul language. The lunch meal cost us about $33 which included a 20% tip, so it was not a cheap place. BTW, the meal was courtesy of some friends of ours. Anyway, DW commented that we never hear talk like this when we visit McDs. Ironic, isn't it? So, would you have also complained?

Stores may look at the survey cards - BUT they're there to gather information for market research.

Yeah, I don't mind too much if they offer me the chance to win something. I have been declining to answer race-based questions lately on these and job application, as well.

I did one for a national chain restaurant and complained about a wobbly table leg. I got probably $25 worth of food coupons. I wasn't making anything up- the manager said he verified my complaint.

Good businesses want you to complain when something is not to your satisfaction - verses never coming back and telling others to do the same.

The down side, is that people will complain - when there really isn't a problem, just to get free stuff.

If you have the courage, it's sometime best, to tell the Manager, right on the spot verses, contacting the Company later.

If he/she is a good manger, they will take care of things.

Yeah, the table leg thing was interesting. The hostess seated us (DW four kids and me) and I immediately pointed it out. It was bad to the point that water glasses would have been sloshing everywhere. She pointed out that someone had tried to fix it by putting some folded cardboard underneath the leg. I pointed out it wasn't working. She kind of sighed and said she would have someone come fix it. Huh? So after I watched her flitting about for several minutes seating others and never talking to anyone, I just moved us to another table. We shelled out who knows how much on that meal and got an online survey with our receipt. I thought, so they want to know how they did do they? Well, I'll tell them. I got a call right away from the manager and he confirmed he had found the table and immediately had it fixed. I just kind of stated that it wasn't that big a deal, but we pointed it out and were ignored and the fact that we were a party of six who shelled out hard-earned dollars for our dining experience, I thought I would mention it. He asked if we would like some food coupons and I said that would be great. I will still go there in the future.
