DH's surgery

DH had his surgery Thursday, trabeculetomy for his glaucoma. He has been trying to find something that would keep his pressure down for several years. Went through many different drops, mostly with severe reactions and or no help with controlling the high pressure. He had one minor surgery that helped for nearly a year, but it was not really anything more than a delaying tactic. He has lost 50% of sight in right eye and 10% in left. Hopefully this surgery will be helpful..

Now I have to make a very active man be careful no lifting, minimal bending over and wearing an eye protector at night!! He is already getting pretty stir crazy!! At least tow more weeks of restricted movements, I think he is going to be climbing the walls.. He has never missed more than a few days of work in his life, he is 61 so that's a lot of time..

Wish me luck as I think I may need to duct tape him down pretty soon..

I know you're not a Christian, but hope you don't mind if I say a prayer or two for you and DH.

Prayers from here too. My Dh had been down 3 weeks, it seems the hardest thing for him is to feel "usless". Hope yours heals fast.

Perhaps there might be a few odd jobs he could do that wouldn't be too strenuous on his eyes while he is recooperating. Collect the mail, wipe down counters, make the bed, fold clothes, etc. I know this will be hard but if he can feel useful and needed it will make him not feel so down!

Thanks so much for all the well wishes.. He has been doing what he can to help out, but have to keep an eye on him cause he kinda wanders into that no-no land.. He has never really been sick, closest thing was some torn ligaments and a broken arm. So this is a whole new thing for him.. He loves to read but it is kinda difficult, he has to cover the one eye, it is still pretty foggy (normal for surgery).. But today is check-up day go to the city, get him out and distract him LOL..

Prayers for successful surgery and recuperation. And prayers for you, that you can make him rest and relax and do everything the doctor tells him.

Just a little update, check up went well yesterday doc happy with how everything looked. He has a couple of more weeks of restrictions. But DH feels good about the surgery even though he is still not allowed to get on the tractor LOL.. Sight is starting to clear as swelling goes down.. We both feel very lucky and grateful that it has turned out as well as it has. Thank you all for the support, it has really been felt by all of us.

Best wishes to you both. If he has sensitive skin, duct tape may cause local irritation. See if he has same clean new tarp straps laying around.

Hopefully now that your dh is seeing improvement he's realize that following orders will give him the best chance overall for vision improvement.

Losing even partial eyesight is very hard to cope with. I go in the morning to see a retina specialist and need to be ready for surgery immediately if it's needed. I had one eye done 5 years ago and now the other one is acting up.

It is amazing what can be done now in the way of ocular surgery, our best wishes for a great outcome for you.. Yes it is difficult for anyone to deal with loosing any amount of sight. So far DH is coping very well, he does have moments that the lose weighs on him.
