That post is one of the reasons that I will not spend my money at Walmart. There are other successful retailers that base their business models around paying their employees a living wage and providing health and retirement benefits. Walmart has made a business decision to operate with little regard for their employees. I can't support that.

Consider the source. It appears the San Diego Free Press is the progressive counterpart to World Net Daily. I believe little of what is published by so called news sources they are all blatantly biased to one political view or the other.
If you believe everything published on the internet is true I have some fantastic
beachfront property in Tucson we need to talk about.

Of course many people are on FS because they The Government Have lowered the eligibly to get on the FS program. The government has also raised the poverty level and that alone more people can get on.
So just weeding out WM is just another nothing but a slamming them because the are the biggest. And that is all. I do a lot of shopping there and will continue to do so as their prices are low enough for us on SS to afford to get a few more things.

He could have worded it better, but I can't argue his point. Does any 5 YO say "I want to work at Walmart when I grow up?" Is Walmart a career choice, or a job of last resort? We all know the pay and benefits stink, so who CHOOSES to work there?

Of course, I'm not talking managers here. They probably want to work there.

Is Walmart the bottom of the barrel? Well, actually no. We have a call center here in town that is ALWAYS hiring. Horrible pay and work conditions. There is an mailing center that seems to hire mostly illegal imigrants to stuff envelopes all day long. There is also a dollor tree warehouse that can't keep employees.

In this economy it almost seems that ANY business that is hiring has awful working conditions.Nobody that works at any of these places is advancing their career.

Why does walmart (or any other business) have to provide a living wage? By living wage I am assuming that means the ability to live off the income. If you want to work a minimum wage job then walmart can provide that. If you are only educated/experienced enough to obtain a minimum wage job then why should you be paid more than min. wage?

I realize that walmart and other huge corporations are notorious for wiping out the mom and pops and don't typically do very well by their employees but I don't understand requiring them to pay more for labor that isn't worth more.

How much of a discount do the workers get? Are they able to make up some imbalances by buying inexpensive foodstuffs, etc? Seriously wondering, not being sarcastic or snarky.

Everyone I know of that has worked for Walmart did quite well. As far as I know, none of them every had to go on foodstamps and I have many relatives that have worked for Walmart and some who have retired from Walmart.
