Utility workers pelted with eggs.
Angry residents pelted utility crews with eggs as they tried to restore power in Bridgeport, Conn., after the mayor claimed the local power company had "shortchanged" the state's largest city as it tries to recover from superstorm Sandy.
United Illuminating workers reported eggs and other objects being thrown at them a day after Mayor Bill Finch said the utility was taking care of wealthy suburbs while his constituents suffered. The unrest caused United Illuminating to pull its workers out until the city agreed to provide police protection.

Then as far as i am concerned the angry residents can restore their own power.

Whiney bunch of IBEW panytwaists . . . the "people" were just showing their
appreciation for the 'union label'. . . . most have lost nearly everything and
following a natural disaster, food items are a commodity held in high esteem;
especially so if they can be used up or given away BEFORE going bad.
No one wants to see food going to waste. . . . and the longer they are without
refrigeration because there is no electricity . . . well, best to give it away quickly
to those who understand what happens when food goes bad by those playing politics.

Next time I hear the phrase (from a Southerner) "Let them freeze in the dark" I will have a whole new understanding.
This is just sad. All I can do is shake my head.

So, Copperkid, you think workers attempting to restore power should be pelted with food and other items as they work? Even if the allegations are true, do you really think the rank and file workers should be put in danger as they try to restore power? It's not like they made the decisions of where to work first.
It's only been 5 days -- considering all the damage the storm wreaked, it's amazing to me that so much has already been restored.

Or at least save them for the very last to get power restored. I just can't imagine them trying to do a very dangerous job with the worry of having angry people to deal with throwing things.

Just remember this, those are most likely O'Great Ones voting base ! They want it all, and they want it yesterday. Far as I 'm concerned, if this is the way they act with people trying to help them, why help them in the first place ? Let'm do without for another week or two. I would think they would show a little gratitude for the help rather then hostility.

I would offer them coffee myself . Catch more flies with honey then with vinegar

What is wrong with people???? I understand the anger if the Mayor really said what he's accused of, but they can't change what had already happened. At least someone was there to get their power going again, even if it may have been able to have been done earlier.

It wouldn't surprise me if the well connected moved to the front of the line again but that's not the field workers fault.
If this happens in 5 days imagine what would happen if the grid collapsed for a month? two months? a year?
It wouldn't surprise me if the rumors about the government planning marshall law aren't true.

According to the utility company, they Mayor lied. Of course, his inflammatory statements make the headlines while the denial is a blip at the end of most accounts! Ah, the press: ya gotta love them or hate them!
Dinah Lord: CT: Utility Workers Pelted With Eggs After Mayor Accuses Them of 'Shortchanging' City
I think that the mayor is already scrounging for votes, as the champion of the people. And, if what the utility company says is true, he is doing it to the detriment of his community.

Let the police protect them in that community. It has been done in other places. The work is slower because that there are not enough police to protect them. I wouldn't want to work in a place that doesn't want me their. Most of the utility workers are from places that have power and it is much better home than on the road.

Oh don't worry thats in the plan too. Remember a couple weeks ago we were warned that we might get a cyber attack from Iran.
That'll probably happen but I'm sure Iran won't be doing it.
Those utility workers should've packed up and moved along.

That is next. If the police do not protect them they will.

If I were trying to help someone and they threw eggs, they could darn well help themselves. In the dark and in the cold.

There were people whining on the radio after less than 24 hours of no power. The power company said to prepare for 7-10 days but they are whining "I haven't seen power crews and I don't have my power back. Where are these guys?? Have they forgotten us?" Yet there were SO many trees down. Every single block had at least one tree down across the road. Friends of mine have a disaster team and they had to escort ambulances on Monday night and had to stop numerous times to cut the trees on the road. And these people expect power NOW??? Good luck with that!

Around my place the response is typically different. Seems like when utility crews show up after some disaster tornado, ice storm etc..) the folks where I live are more apt to run a hot cup of coffee or a muffin out to the utility crews. Might serve the some scrambled eggs and bacon but never raw eggs.
