I was in walmart last week and it was so stuffy. I think they need to install ceiling fans. At least if the air was moving a bit it would be better.

I complain about it if I go into a hot store. I tell them that I won't be back, which I won't. Most of the time, the local stores cannot even control it, but only the headquarters.

Still freezing in stores here. I walk around with my arms tucked if we get within 3 or 4 aisles of the freezer section and while walking through the misting produce area which includes most of the store.

I'd imagine the cost has a LOT to do with it

Not a problem here.
I absolutely freeze!!! when I go into a store. Our grocery store seems to be 1/2 filled with open refrigerator cases. All of the meat, dairy, beer, eggs etc.. are pumping out the cold on top of blasting AC.
Brrrrrrrrrrr.

Still freezing here, not sure what idiot thinks 70F-72F for a store is perfectly fine when the temp is 106F out.
Going in and out of AC all day can't be good for a person.
Of course I guess most people go from their air conditioned house to their ac car to their ac office - then complain about their electric bill.

I don't like AC. I try to get used to the heat instead. Saves money and is lots more healthy.

When I was a Walmart Manager I got a call from the Bentonville HQ. They said they wanted to know if they could increase the temperatrue (i.e. lower the amount the AC) that there was some kind of joint cooperation with the utility company to reduce demand etc... blah blah.

I explained to the man that it was currently 112 outside and changing the temp would have the following potential negative affects:

1. spoilage of produce
2. loss of customers

I had to explain to him that alot of the customers didn't have or couldn't afford AC so they came into the store to spend some time in the AC.

They didn't change the temps.

HQ control and "cost savings" measures are probably behind the warmer stores.

I noticed that I hadn't had to borrow a jacket from the ladies department just to keep from freezing to death while shopping lately.

I always thought the stores, kept the a/c like a meat locker, on hot days, to keep the shoppers in the store longer.

Maybe they figure that they will continue to shop, regardless.

The work force for many stores has changed with a lot of older people being hired. The older workers don't like it quite as cold and they keep cranking the thermostat higher and higher.

If the large box stores are anything like Home Depot their thermostats are set by the home office. Atlanta controls the temperature in all the Home Depots, and if the big doors in the back have been open for a half hour, sucking all the cool air out, the system doesn't adjust for a long time.

The ac units at the store I work at actually don't even work right. So when they wanted us to conserve power we turned off half the lights. Most of the time it is toasty in there, and the back rooms are brutal at times.

Too expensive to cool like they use to. Where I work in the extreme heat they turn off the automatic doors.
