Unhappy What Does It take To Put Him In Hospital?

Ok my Son has had Metal Problems for years. He is currently on Probation.Seems he is getting arrested on a regular Basis.Thing is he has Warrants out for him in other counties but he is so bad off the Counties don't want him.

According from what I've found he is taking his medication his PO makes sure of this but he is taking other Illegal drugs along with this.

For the most part he has not been a danger to anyone but himself,by seeing his Demons and trying to take them out of his Body by beating or whatever.I seen a Mug shot of him looked like the Cops or someone had beat him as bad as I have ever seen, found out he did it to himself.

He has family taking care of him until it's just too much. They can't have him Hospitalized, done tried.

Seems like the system is waiting for him to do away with himself or he kills someone and they will have a good excuse to do away with him.

I'm at a loss,so afraid his demons have him there is no hope and still Pray that our Heavenly Father will take care of them,I know he can

Is your son poor and uninsured? I only ask because in many cases, if a person has no ability to pay for care and no access to insurance or state paid medicaid, it is often difficult to get the help. Unfortunately money talks, and without it people in need of medical care just don't get it.

I think it has to go to court, a judge has to find that he is a danger to himself or others, at least it is that way in Idaho law according to the abnormal psych class I took......

Schizophrenia

My friend has a brother who has schizophrenia. He is about 58 years old now. He is supposed to take various prescriptions for his condition. Sometimes he goes over the edge and starts becoming very aggressive and demanding, and he makes less sense than usual. He threatened to rape and kill his own brother. My friend went to the police and they told him how to get the brother in a hospital. My friend had to fill out an application, had to say the nature of the brother's mental illness, age,how long hehad been violent, etc. Then the law went to his house and just stated "We're here to take you to the hospital." He didn't put up a fight. They put him in the backseat of a police car and took him to a regular hospital (just a regular hospital, not a mental hospital) and the brother was admitted to the Psych Ward. They only kept him several days. My friend think he should have been kept a few weeks. My friend says the brother told him he has been hospitalized 33 times over the years -- since he showed symptoms of schizophrenia at about 19 years of age. The number may be true or it may not be. There have been times when the brother is so violent that my friend has warned me if he shows up at the door, not to answer the door but call the police instead. And he also uses drugs and alcohol. He uses marijuana.
I am sorry for your son and your family. I am saying a prayer for him.

A remark to the wrong guy in a pub can land him in a hospital... but prolly a little different ward that you were hoping for. Most likely your boy is going to have to learn about life the hard way... seems a shame but all too often thats just how it is.

Mental hospitals have been downsides since the late 1950. That is when they used drugs to control them. The only problem is that you must take the drugs and see a DR for new ones because the old ones may not work. It is sad to see many of the persons that should be in a hospital loose on the street. Oh by the way I grew up on a State Hospital for the mentally ill and know how they were treated.

Have you called the police and told them that you are afraid he will harm himself or others? If they do their jobs right, he should get an immediate 96 hour hold in a psych unit.

Don't try to get him into a private setting, without private insurance it won't happen.

Call his doctor and tell them you are worried he will harm himself or others. Is he off his medications?

Contact Fulton State Hospital in Fulton, MO. I don't know if I should put the number here or not, but they do have a website that should give you guidelines on admission.

Having been retired from FSH due to injury, I can tell you this though. Once he is in the system and moved to Fulton (if he is violent, he probably will be) he will not be restrained either chemically or physically unless he attacks others or harms himself.

He won't be sitting around all day in a Thorazine stupor or in a straight jacket. Those days ended in the early 90's when those methods were discontinued by law in this state. While it's good for the patient it does get staff hurt a lot.

If he works within the system and follows the programs, he can be released from FSH, but it won't be in just a couple of weeks. It will be for the long haul and it may be what he needs.

I wish you all the best and if you have questions about FSH, please ask me and I'll do all I can to help you.

Pathway ACI Crisis Hotline is... 1-800-833-3815. They service Hickory and the surrounding counties. They should be able to tell you what you can do.

Fulton State Hospital's main switchboard is 573-592-4100. Tell the operator you need to speak to someone about your son. Don't try today, but during the week to reach the main office people.

What do you have to do in Mo to Baker Act him into the hospital?? It might be called something else in your area, but most states have some such law to protect folks from themselves if the family thinks they might be a danger to themselves.... Good luck with your son - it must break your heart to do this......praying too....
