Endorsements; I Don't Get It?

Why do (should) I care who endorses who? If my favorite actor of all time endorsed someone I didn't believe in, it's not like I would say, "Oh, because so and so has endorsed him I must change my vote."

I endorse Mitt (by default, I guess). So how many have now changed their minds based on my endorsement? If I was popular and well known, would that influence anyone?? I think for myself and stand my ground against what I believe is wrong and stand for what I believe is right, no matter who sides with me or how popular someone else on the other side is.

What am I missing? What is the purpose in someone saying, "I am big, rich, popular, and I support candidate X." Celebrities don't influence me in my choices of deodorant, toothpaste or car insurance, why on earth would/should they influence me politically?

Most of the people in the USA have no idea what their candidate stands for. They know every detail about some of the TV shows. They don't make the effort to find out who to vote for. There are many who vote 'name recognition'. That is why IMO that candidates put out so many signs and why advertising is so important. When they see someone like Angeline or Brad endorse someone, sad to say, but it is a done deal for many. There are many people who are easily swayed and don't stand for principles.

Sara Palin endorsing Mourdock, surely dragged away, IN Republican voters, who always pulled the lever, for Dick Lugar, simply out of habit, if nothing more.

It's all a part of the game of popularity.

We like who people we like, like (or something like that)

That's not true of many people. Those are the people endorsements are meant for.

I can understand why political people making endorsements matter to people. I don't understand why endorsements from actors, singers, etc. would matter at all. I'd wager some of those actor types know very little else besides acting and many of them can't even run their personal lives.

Well, I had made up my mind to vote for Obama (You know, cause he's so cool) but if you are endorsing Romney, I guess I'll change my vote.

I understand CH. I may have to change mine too. From the looks of all of your Pro Obama posts, it was a tough decision for you to change but an endorsement goes a long way.

Yeah, it took some doing to pull me away from Obama, or Barrack as I usually call him because I like to imagine we're buddies when I talk to the Barrack pictures in my Barrack shrine room.
I just like saying it, "Barrack Barrack Barrack"
Just gives me a thrill up my leg, y'know?

Because America has some real idiots that will follow every actor's every move, including which candidate to vote for.

And here I thought people were EMBOSSING the people of their choice. I expected to be able to see tattoos. If they are just writing on them like a check, phooie!

I was thinking of using the celebrities listed on " The Celebrities on Probation " web site to see who they are endorsing .
Starting with Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen.

I don't think I will be getting a Fathers Day present from My sister this year ?
In a recent heated discussion , she said that I didn't vote for Obama because He was black , but she did because this country needed a black president .
I replied that wasn't the reason , it was his record or lack of one .
I then asked her since she voted for him last time to prove she wasn't a racist , will she be voting for someone else this time to prove she isn't Stupid .
Bob
Ps
I haven't heard from her since ?
Countdown until Obama leaves office

I know a woman whose vote would actually be influenced by an endosrement from octomom. How scary is that?

This is America.

If one's favorite NASCAR driver, has a Tide laundry detergent sponsorship, then that is the only brand, they will use.

Celebrities and political pundits, do our thinking for us.

Everybody knows an actor, singer, or sports figure know better than the ordinary person.
They are famous. That should show the little people who should really pick our leaders.
You little people should listen to your betters.
