Simple Pleasures
For me, it is cuddling DD, warm, sweet and innocent when she climbs in bed with me and makes me turn on cartoons.
Watching the horses out the front window.
Seeing the goats go crazy and bounce up to the gate when they see me.
The fluffy cuteness of my chow dog lying at the top of the stairs, all fluff, ears, eyes and button nose. Also, the warrior spirit of my aging GSD as he continues to defy odds with his Degenerative Myelopathy.
Rolling over in bed and finding that PERFECT spot of comfort.
Crackling fire in the stove.
Scalding hot shower for no reason; no where to go, no one to see, just a hot shower easing away stress.
What's your simple pleasures??

It's they first 'smell and feel' of fall at the end of summer.
Standing next to a lake, hearing the waves on shore and the smell of lake water in the air.
The 'tap-tap' I can feel thru my fishing line, knowing I'm just about to get bit ....
The ring of a hammer against white hot metal on an anvil ......
Sniffing the almost sweet gunpowder smell of empty shotgun shells right after they are fired ...........
Most of my pleasures come from being outdoors instead of cooped up in a house .....

Setting in the swing sipping coffee.
Listening to the crickets chirping.
Seeing the first lightening bug of the season.
Realizing that florescent green fishing cork is gone.
Seeing a set of deer horns before you see the deer.
Watching the grand-kids looking for four leaf clovers.
The smell of country ham frying.
The smell of onions in anything cooking.
The smell of freshly mowed grass.
The smell and taste of a bowl of boiled peanuts.
The first strawberry, watermelon or grapes of the season.
Smelling leaves burning in the fall (somebody elses mines for the garden)
Love watching it snow, and thinking pineapple snow creme tonight.
Finding out that questionable check I wrote has cleared the bank, lol
Listening to my wife go on and on about all my good points and how much I mean to her.

We sit out in the garage with the Garage door open and watch the world go by. We see a lot of wildlife and the hummers come for a little sip of sugar water and they usually hover and give us a peep, then they chase each other. The other day a turkey flew by and crash landed on the nearby hill. It is mating season for them. The buzzards have a nest up on the hill beside the house and they circle and land in a big pile of brush and old logs. The red tail hawks are flying around and the eagles are learning to fly and find the thermals, they circle until they are almost out of sight then they go for another ridge. We usually have coffee and the binoculars and sit for a few hours. It is refreshing and peaceful.

Good Morning,
Too many delights to list them, but here's one thing - yesterday, I drove past a small pond that has about a dozen Canada geese living around it. There were four, yellowish fuzz balls following a couple of adults through the grass.
My heart simply rejoiced and I laughed out loud upon seeing the new life.

I loaded in a little town in Al. last week,as I was going by this farm I noticed 2 mamas and their very fresh foals,so I pulled over and just watched them interact....I looked down at clock and noticed I'd been there for an hour...it was so peaceful,I sat for another hour.....the simple things in life really are the best.

Sitting under the stars by the fish pond with a glass of homemade wine.
Picking fresh flowers and herbs in the morning, still wet with dew.
Playing cards with my kids on the patio with fresh popped corn and cold iced tea.
Watching the cat play with yarn scraps.
Watch the squirrels and birds play in the trees from my kitchen window while sipping my morning coffee.

Drifting along in the middle of calm undeveloped lake early morning. Hearing the slight lapping noise of the water against the aluminum side of the boat. The sight of drifting mist. The smell of the surrounding wild plants and trees. And the slow disappearing slurp of the bobber as a fish takes the bait.

My barn, first thing in the morning. I like to think everyone's happy to see me, but I really know that they're hungry and know I'll feed them!
My yard, right after I get done mowing it.
The quiet in the house when I know my kids are asleep in bed.
A nap.

Sitting at my kitchen table with a cup of coffee in the early morning/late afternoon watching the birds at the feeders.
Seeing my clumsy puppy discover new things in the yard.
Laying in my hammock with a good book and a cold beer.
Going out into the garden after work and harvesting all the goodies. Love it!!
My little granddaughters giggles.

My simple pleasures sleeping in as late as I want to, hanging out at my version of a country club ( my mechanic's t shop) for a game of cards , chess , dominoes, pocket knife swapping and tale telling depending who else is visiting "our country club" over a DP or here at home watching a DVD while relaxing with a homemade cappuccino.

Creek wading after a big rain. Just wading around, barefoot, in the creek after its gone down and seeing what's been turned up. Not fishing or looking for anything, just wading around snooping.

Oh, these are all wonderful things to do! So much better than trying to keep up with the Joneses and run through the stores all the time.

Sitting out on our 2nd floor deck, with my DSW chatting, watching the birds down at the feeders, seeing a car go by, shifting down, as it goes up the big hill, past our place.
Or...Sitting by myself, out on the bench, by the pond, hearing the birds, watching the breeze blown ripples on the pond, and blowing a quiet tune on my old harmonica.
Or...Sitting with a couple old friends, with our guitars & banjo, taking turns leading an old song from many years past, and drinking a couple cold home-brews.
And sometimes, just sitting, thinking about the old times, where we've been, some of the roads we've been down, and talking about some of the old friends that have gone on to other places, and other roads.
And sometimes just sitting & thinking.............
