Kefir is basically thinned down yogart and its ok. Slightly different twang as its a different bacteria culture. Not sure what they mean it has less sugar unless they are comparing it to the doctored up commercial yogarts with all the sweetenings and flavorings. Kefir with added sugar and flavoring would be same only thinner and more liquid.

Jicama, had it, nothing special, sort of water chestnut like. I wouldnt bother unless you already know you really like it. Rather pricey in specialty produce section.

Cha-cha-chia, sorry cant get those stupid chia pet commercials out of my head. You can eat Shaggy and Scooby's hair....

Fermented garlic... um dont think so.

Kelp is an aquired taste, one you wish would go away. But its very healthy....

Nutritional yeast can be good or not so good. When I belonged to a food coop long ago used to buy it to put on popcorn. They had the better tasting nutritional yeast. As I say some of it is rather unpleasant tasting.

Barley, the north's answer to rice. Hulled barley, very much like brown rice, maybe little less nutrition. I'd consider them interchangable unless one has a strong preference for some reason. Pearled barley is like white rice, with simular decline in nutrition with the polishing.

I bought some Shirataki noodles last month but tossed them out before trying them . I just didn't like the way they look or felt.

The black garlic looks interesting, anyone know how to make it?

James, the barley is the one I can't eat! I miss soup with barley.

Don't worry about it! Today's superfood is tomorrow's poison. Eat what you like.

Regular food in the stores is pricey enough as Hermit pointed out in another thread. I can only imagine what all this high-falutin' stuff costs in the artsy-fartsy section of the store!
I've had Jicama before too...tasteless from what I remember. So we can pay a LOT more for stuff that has no flavor or is downright nasty? Pass.

I like jicama, but very rarely buy it- too expensive & when (and if) it gets to stores here
it is already partially rotten usually.
