Mega Millions

I am a rare lottery player. I only plunck down a five, quick pick, when it reaches record or near record highs.

....and...I never get even ONE number.

Because yesterday's lottery was a over a half billion I put down a 10 for the fun of it, and, you guessed it....I didn't even get ONE number. Thats 60 numbers, say more like 50 with the reapeats, and still not even one number.

I've only won one time, around 20 years ago. I got the power ball or something and won two bucks on a 200 mill jackpot.

Why do I still continue to throw money down the toilet like this?

Thanks for the report. I invested $8.00 on a rare lottery purchase, got 2 numbers (not on the same line ), and was feeling sorry for myself until you posted and I saw someone was a bigger loser than I was.

Probably has something to do with not having calculated the odds of winning v losing. Either that or maybe you enjoy giving your money away.

I got 2 numbers on line. But having only two numbers of which one was not the super one.., Having just those 2 numbers, do not pay a thing.

Yeah, but if you don't buy a ticket your odds of winning go down to infinite 0%

When I bought mine I just joked with the store clerk that I was just buying a ticket to Pay More Taxes.
It is just a way of self taxation.

I got into 2 groups at work, one with 25 people @ $5 a piece (125 sets of numbers)

and one with 9 people @ $5 a piece (45 sets of numbers)

I checked them all this morning (took a while) and combined those 170 sets of numbers won $12.00

Oh well, for $10 I got about 20 minutes of entertainment checking numbers and a couple days worth of dreams. I guess that's not a terrible return on investment.

Which is only slightly different than if you buy a ticket. 176 million possible combinations and only one of them is the winner. Your odds of winning is much better playing "the numbers" run by those nice fellows over on the east side. They usually run in the thousand to one category.

Hey, what do you want for a buck? It's less than what a soft drink costs nowadays. And there's always the possibility, however remote, that you might actually win. It's cheap entertainment. Go to a movie, cost you $10, watch it for 2 hrs. and come away with nothing. No chance of getting rich. Gotta put things in perspective...

DW and I got one ticket each, more to experience the group than with any expectation of winning. For a couple of bucks, it was more pleasant than paying at least $25 to be part of the group experience of sitting at a baseball game with idiots screaming in my ears. Risk/reward. Minimal risk, minimal chances of a payoff, but the payoff was big enough to waste the two bucks. The reward level is rarely that high.

For $2 I got to dream, talk with my sister about her dreams and really have a nice evening. I think I got my money's worth.

Three people will split the winnings.
Lottery ticket-holders in Kansas, Illinois and Maryland each selected the winning numbers and will split a $640 million jackpot that was believed to be the world's largest such prize, a lottery official said Saturday.

Because so many other people were doing the exact same thing and sometimes it's fun to share common ground and goals with other people and be a part of the collective.

Doubt it. We want to win the money so we can fully express our individualism.
