Since When Do Junior Highers Go...

On Spring Break??? I really thought this was a college thing.

Anyone else get the feeling the Obamas are living up while they can? I mean, come on, their daughter and 15 closest friends? My daughter is 12 and has maybe a couple friends at best. I bet those Secret Service agents are proud of their service accompanying teeny-boppers on a trip.

Anyone know what this trip is costing us?

When you have money - or when someone pays for it.

I didn't know they were going on spring break. Do you by any chance have the link? Not seeing the article my opinion would be that being the President's daughter puts a whole different stress on a child. Maybe they thought they needed a chance to get away from the fish bowl that politician's kids, especially the President's kids have to live in. Not saying it's right or wrong, just trying to give the benefit of doubt.

The article is being scrubbed from all sites that were carrying it. Here's a link to that story on the Blaze:

She'd have a lot more if you sent them on a trip to Mexico.

We're going to a local museum and indoor water park for DS's spring break. MS do go on spring break. Rich folks get to go further than normal folks do.

Nice. Picking on a kid. Malia Obama is not on spring break vacation with 12 friends. She is on a class trip paid for by her parents with classmates and teachers. Her school does not even begin spring break until March 23rd. And of course she is entitled to secret service protection - now and pretty much forever. She is the daughter of the President. And several of the kids on the trip with her who attend the same private school are also entitled to secret service protection so all the agents are not just for one person.

That's going to cost us taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars! Why Mexico? Why not Canada?

Hehe, whatever do you mean? Just kidding. I would be terrified to let my kids go to Mexico because of the drug wars going on there. I see stories about it all the time. Friends that go back to visit family tell me THEIR scared to go back . I guess if you have that many ss, one should be pretty safe. Guess i just like Canada better!

While I think the class trip changes things somewhat, based on the decisions of her parents to have a political lifestyle, shouldn't they have to make adjustments in their lives. If thruir child has the opportunity to do something, but it causes the taxpayers unduly, shouldn't her parents step in and moderate things a bit? If my kid wins an award and it would cost other people to receive that award, then I would hope I would be hesitant to allow my child to participate or in this case, make every effort to mitigate the expense. The actions of the Obamas have impact on other and I think the point most people are trying to make, is that they don't seem to care.

I agree with that, whodunit. Since they have the means, I think they should reimburse the Secret Service for the additional expense of all non-business trips they go on.

I disagee.

It's in our national interest they be protected. Why would it be required for them to pay?

I'm not one to judge a persons lifestyle. If it's their lifestyle to travel, more power to them. I travel from time to time myself. I really doubt they'd care for my lifestyle, but I don't care.

The job of the SS is to protect them. They should not have to pay for that protection.

In essence your saying if they can afford to go on a trip, they must also be able to pay for their own security. Security they would not need if not for the position Dad holds. In simple terms, the President has to pay to be President, if he wants his kids to take part in any activilties seperate from official buisness.

It doesn't make much sence to me. How many folks will want to be President if they must pay additional thousands or millions if their kid wants to go on a class trip? Only rich dudes? Not wise IMO. I'd still be pres if I was so inclined, but being poor, I'd pay for my kids class trip and let them go sans SS. You'd have a very nervous country and I'd bet SS would go anyway, for national security.

I love Canada, too! We make it a point to visit at least once each summer. We tend to go to the Niagara Falls/St. Catherines area or the Gananoque area through the Thousand Islands. I definitely prefer Canada's temperatures. I get evil when its too hot!
