Nascar

Anyone catch the Sprint demolition derby at Daytona? Racing has changed SO much since the 1950s.

In the 50's there would be 1 car or maybe 2 on the lead lap. And when they wrecked they left the speeday over the fence.

Well in a little over an hour the 500 qualifying will be taking place. Lets see how Menard will qualify, and how well Danica will qualify.

I lost a lot of interest in NASCAR when they put restrictor plates on the cars. When it got to the point you had to read the sticker on the car to tell what kind of car it was supposed to be I gave up on it.

It is only what 2 tracks they do that on. Daytona is one the Super Super speedways.
Do you really want to see a wreck at 225 mph??? Or faster?
If they didn't that is how fast they would go, when that horsepower gets up to 900+~ Heck those cars are already nearly wrecking at 195 to 200 now. They are so loose at those high speeds that in the NAME of safety they HAD to limit the amount of horsepower.

I'll at the 500. I have been to several tracks, but this is my first trek to the Daytona 500.

I have a feeling that NASCAR may put back the inch they took from the rear spoiler.. That would help keep the rear of the cars in place a little better..

I do have to say, as much as I like "hating Kyle Busch" I think he pulled of a couple of impressive saves...Dang it.....I still won't cheer for the bum, but to save the car doing 190+ mph sideways, was impressive and he did it more than once...

Again, Dang it!

I wasn't pleased that Edwards and Biffle got the front row, but it seems that Ford had the advantage in Qualifying on Sunday. Although I was glad to see Trevor B make the race on speed. Can't wait to see the races on Thursday...

Yeah, plates REALLY reduce the number of wrecks. At what races do you almost always see "the big one"? Bristol?

All the plates do is cause the cars to bunch up, bump draft and the like. If you want to make the super speed races slower, safer and BETTER you change the cars. You aren't going to be able to drive 200+ mph in a car with no front nor rear spoiler. That means to win you have to be able to drive not just have a fast pit crew and manage to avoid "the big one".

It should be interesting the first time Kyle and Danica tangle on the track. The post incident interview with Kyle should be good, although he will likely at least make an attempt at being PC. If it happens a second time though, that will be an interview to watch.

Nascar hasn't been the same since we lost #3. It was cool to watch that slingshot move again.

Take the bank out of the track the cars will have to slow down. Indy has flatter turns the cars have to slow down or they are going to drive them into the wall. Take that huge bank out of Daytona's turns remove the plate and let the drivers "drive" the cars.

Yep, I'm thinking that will happen as well.

I used to love to watch NASCAR but it got to the point that every time a piece of paper blew onto the track they'd have a caution and it got really old. I liked it better in the old days when the pit crews wore blue jeans and t-shirts and trailered or drove the race car to the race. That was my kind of racing.

How can it be "racing" when a pit stop can get you better track position than 50 laps of driving?
