How come they never did that when I was a kid? There was pornography back then too.
Sites like this one do have a valid purpose, and are important to balance crud going the other way, but they pick-n-choose what to use. However, believing them without considering their bias is foolish.
"The study involved 328 girls from underprivileged areas of the city who had visited a neighborhood clinic for sexual health issues. "
Think there just MIGHT be a possibility that the sample is biased? Or that those in the study might already have been sexually active for a while or sexualized by incest, rape and the like? I don't deny there might be a point, but a valid point is much stronger when allowed to be tested in double-blind and other scientific studies.

Probably the most common porn you got your hands on was a Playboy centerfold. Nowadays what is available freely on the internet is very degenerate stuff. Kids don't know what sex is, what they're supposed to do. They see this perverted stuff and think this is normal. They don't realize that what is produced is ever more outrageous because porn users become enured/immune to tamer stuff, "normal" stuff, and so need more more more crazier porn to get off.

I saw a news item somewhere just in the last month or so (someone with a high speed connection can google it, I'm on dial-up and searching often takes forever and I'm not inclined to go hunting right now anyway) that basically said this very thing. Porn is like violent video games-- some people play violent video games and get bored with the level of violence, and so escalate up to increasingly violent games. Porn has the same effect.
But no doubt someone will be along shortly to defend such perversions and deviancies by claiming they are simply cultural practices, traditions, or what have you...

The porn I saw when I was growing up wasn't near as filthy as what you see on the internet now days. When I was growing up I probably didn't see but 3 or 4 magazines total and all they showed was just chest up. Playboys I'm thinking.
But now days kids have instant access to any kind of porn they want to see on the net. Which I don't think is right. But as filthy as this world is getting, there doesn't seem much we can do about it.

We don't allow DS 11 to search on the web without permission - meaning one of his parents home and in the same room. We were searching "fun games" last week - and came up with more porn trash sites than games. Even innocent children can be exposed to this garbage. I loath that it is so. It's a plague in our society.

i'm over 40 and what was available to me (way too early i might add) as magazines included images of group sex & ads for even dirtier stuff. so yeah the imagery has ALWAYS been there. the main difference w/ the net is that there is just A LOT more of it & A LOT more kids have access to it.
i agree the study has a built in bias that throws the numbers off.

This is why monitoring what your kids are doing on the internet is so important. Unfortunately, the internet of today was the television of yesterday, an electronic babysitter.

We put a parental lock on our computers to protect our kids. It works great, but for some reason, it blocks my weather forecast at times, saying it has been blocked due to pornographic content. IN A WEATHER FORECAST!!! And my wife has the code, even I don't know it, and so sometimes I "get lucky", and see my forecast, and sometimes not. LOL

I'll volunteer for the job!
Just kidding. Seriously, I think we're living in a time when the structure of the family is changing, at least in Western culture. Marriage is declining, as fewer men are able to support a family. However, people's sex drives don't just go away -- inevitably, they'll find some outlet. If a man's sexuality no longer plays out in the traditional context -- with a wife -- it will be expressed elsewhere. Pornography appears to be a logical choice.
Or, to put it another way, many men today can't afford to have one woman solely devoted to meeting their sexual needs (i.e., a wife) but they can afford to watch pornography, which is cheap because one video may be enjoyed by thousands of people. The woman on the screen is "affordable" because her cost is shared among many viewers.
On second thought, maybe it's always been this way, more or less, because in earlier times, men who couldn't afford to keep a wife usually satisfied their needs through more transient arrangements -- for instance, by visiting prostitutes.
I guess there really is nothing new under the sun!

An elementary school in my area found that the website "marsexploration.com" was blocked because it had s-e-x in it, and a lady I used to work with tried to access a continuing education website for pharmacists, and couldn't because it was about drugs.
On a more serious note, did anyone else notice that this article mentioned only in passing that those girls were not engaging in sexual intercourse by themselves? Do they think it's okay for boys to do it but not girls?

So todays girls are five times more likely to have group sex......
than whom?
Teens have been having group sex for a long time.... of course some prefer to believe their kids dont do such things. My kids did... and they grew up long before there was internet available... I did too... and I grew up with black and white television and party line telephones. My parents were not a bit above having a little fun with their friends as teenagers either.... and they grew up when radios were the latest greatest thing going. I remember in school reading about the good folks in Rome a couple thousand years ago having some pretty exciting parties.... and the greeks before them.
I tend to believe that sex is a pretty normal part of the human life experience. Just because some folks want to believe otherwise dont exactly make it so.

LOL! I'm sure you are right. Around my school most of the disappearing Junior and Senior girls had been followers of the jock culture.
