That's where the entitlement mentally has gotten us and it is getting worse. I would bet the payroll tax cut being debated now will NEVER be stopped, pushing SS into insolvency at 100 billion dollars a year faster. People already feel they are entitled to the cut.
BTW, the chart is outdated. Just saw on Drudge that the national debt is now over 15 trillion dollars. Party on.

You know, our politicians aren't the smartest people around. Maybe if you emailed some of them your example they'd finally understand. Sort of like using small words when talking with little children.

Awesome and easy to understand. Coincidently, the outstanding balance is about what each working family owes. Thanks to the government and bankers your children will be in hock forever.

Shows we need to cut and raise the tax base to where it was in Reagans time.

And vote some other multi-millionaires in that are equally out of touch with reality? You'd think wealthy people could handle money, but guess thats only when its their own money? Otherwise the wealthy like to party hardy on somebody else's dime too.

The only difference in Washington far as party goes is whether you want to let your corporate buddies feast at the public trough and nobody else, or whether you want to do both that and spread a few crumbs for the peon class.

As long as money can buy "Free Speech" it will be impossible to change the downward tragetory of this nation.

Everyone should print out a copy of this and display it in their home, work place, and make a bumper sticker out of it.
Maybe if people see it enough they will begin to understand.

What gets me is the entitlement crowd keeps telling us they are taking all those food stamps for the kids. but They are hurting their kids and won't take the time to figure it out. I am finding it more pathetic all the time. More like grown adults are making their living off the babies.

A very clear way to explain the problem but that is only half the lesson. With such massive debt you can of course declare bankruptcy or you can fix your own mess. The only way to get out of debt is to stop making new debt (so more budget cut backs coming off the $21, 700 income) and to earn more money. You can redistribute some of your new budget cuts taken from the $21,700 to pay off debt (which means extreme austerity) but in order to pay off your debt and get to a balanced budget way of life you will have to earn a lot more money in any way you can until that debt is paid off. For a family that may mean only the bare necessities, everyone working more jobs and allowances cut to $0 and even returning TVs and computer games. Everyone will have to contributre and sacrifice. For a country that means budget cutbacks that affect everyone, increasing productivity and also increasing taxes until the debt is gone.

I don't ever see the dept being paid off, especially if we don't start soon with the austerity. The longer we wait the more it will hurt.

There is something folks seem to be overlooking...... the current regime simply *doesn't care*. They don't give a rat's backside about their spending. They are getting theirs while they can, and to heck with everyone else, including their own children and grandchildren, and *especially* yours.
