Why live in the boonies?

Shot from my front window about 15 minutes ago:

Could've gotten better pictures, but I didn't want to disturb the family. I saw the doe a few weeks ago and she was looking a bit thin. Looks like she's a bit healthier now.

The wildlife, and scenic beauty are some of the reasons.... but mostly I live in the boonies coz there are very few farms for sale at reasonable prices in the city.

I wish I was in the boonies, in the country but have neighbors. Going to work this morning I saw a doe with 5 fawns, usually there are only 2 with her. Babysitting I guess.

I guess that I wound up with the "Bachelor Quarters" here at my place...

I swear that I have the 'world's dumbest deer' (coastal blacktail), up here on the hilltop!

The 'guys' hangout right next to the house, and don't believe me when I tell them that I am buying at least one deer tag for this year's archery season.

I hate to tell you that FourDeuce lives in town or in the suburbs. I love the look that the bamboo has on your place.

Could just be the angle of the camera, but those deer sure look...uh.....well fed.

Nope - those big dummies are 'free range deer'. There is another buck that is much larger than those two roaming around up on the hilltop, and he comes around here at times.

I don't feed them, bait them, or entice them in any way. Well they do come around the apple trees located behind the house, during the fall.

In fact I go outside and wave bayonet tipped rifles or loaded pistols at them and verbally abuse them, as they just stand there and look at me. I bet that I could just throw an arrow at them, or take one out by beating it upside the head with my cane.

Yet the gals/ youngsters have been seen around here in the past..

Heh. They are well fed alright, they're all like that, and Radiofish is right when he says the coastal blacktail are dummies - they just make themselves right at home any old where they please careless of risk. Dumber and more stubborn than bricks, but they sure can get downright aggressive and vicious if they get ticked off at you for some reason.

[QUOTE=Wisconsin Ann;5328768]I've never seen a PAIR of fawns with mom Lovely!

I actually saw a doe with 3 fawns a couple of weeks ago.
They all looked good.
I was astounded. That's definitely a first for me!
Now, if only I could remember to bring my camera!

Wow, 3 fawns? awesome.

I've been informed that we actually have a doe with 2 fawns this year, I just haven't seen them yet. Apparently they come out late evening to drink from the outdoor chicken waterers.

We, too, have VERY well fed deer around the area. Loads of apple trees in the wild, and the whole area is planted in alfalfa or corn. Deer Heaven. Although, I've never seen one QUITE as well fed as those with RadioFish! My goodness...that one looks like he needs a corset!

Or taking on "orphans". I see this quite often.
This year I have one doe caring for 3 fawns... 3 different sizes... bless her heart! The middle one is hers. The orphans just latch on.

I guess like a "nurse cow", some moms will take them, some won't.
