Radio

I was listening to a radio station today for a few minutes. Might have been american family network, but I'm not sure. The radio hosts were going on about how republicans pressing to get a balanced budget amendment to the constitution are like George Washington, or Lincon...true patriots. I didn't listen long enough to hear much more. But it raised the question in my mind as to why deeply religious people care about getting a balanced budget amendment. What does that have to do with religion and the bible? And I get that it's the republican agenda and that religious folks are generally republicans. But is there more to it than that?

since I wasn't listening to that conversation, I can't say what was in their minds, but it sounds like an extrapolation of the Christian right wing thinking. Just because they're on a religious channel, or deeply religious doesn't mean they can't think about politics.

The deeply religious usually want a stable environment for themselves and offspring. to get that, they need to know the country is solid, jobs are good. I would suspect that it's part of the "less government, more responsibility" thinking, too.

How's that?

Not all republicans/conservatives are the religious right. A lot of us are fiscally conservative and simply believe that the govt must start living within its means and stop the spending and waste.

There are some interesting scriptures in the Bible about debt:
For the LORD your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you. - Deuteronomy 15:6

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender. - Proverbs 22:7

The Bible does not forbid debt, but warns against debt for obvious reasons. And it makes for a simpler, less stressful life.

I think there is a genral consensus, among Conservative Christians, that Conservative=Republican=Patriots, whereas Liberal=Democrat=Socialists.

There is both fact and fiction with this, but none of it is cut and dry, in reality.

As far as the current crop of Republicans being "Patriots", I don't know whether to laugh, at that statement, or scream in anger.

Our country is in crisis, and severely needed budget leadership, but the Republicans, just like the greedy Democrats, could not take off their "politics as usual" hats, for even one second. Not only could they not do the right thing, they could not do anything at all.

IMO, I have never been more ashamed, of my entire "Government", than with these recent budget "parlor tricks". Shameful.

Every Conservative Christian should be just as angry.
