Job interview question

A couple weeks ago, I was contacted by a hospital where I don't even recall applying for a job! (I'm a pharmacist; jobs in that field are, for the first time ever, very hard to come by.) One of my Facebook friends, who has worked as a pharmacy tech and is an RN, said that they probably had an opening come up and found my application on file.

Thing is, a month ago I started a new job and moved to that city last week. Just yesterday, I closed on the house in my old city. This new job is, for now, part time and through a temp agency, and there's no guarantee that it could turn permanent and the actual employees are having a hard time getting paid.

It's scheduled for next Monday and is a 5-hour drive away. Travel expenses would be reimbursed. I'm ambivalent about going on this, although my current colleagues would not need to know about it because it was scheduled around my work hours. My Realtor, when I told her yesterday about the people not getting reliably paid, said, "You should keep your options open" but like I said, I'm not sure what to do.

Anyone?

You have a part time job with a company having difficulties meeting their payroll.

Decisions are easier to make once you have all the facts. By going to the interview and listening to any offer the hospital may tender, you will be able to weigh your options and determine what is in your best interest.

I knew I would be moving somewhere, because I had no job prospects in my last city. I was actually planning to move to a city where I had lived before, whether I found a job in that field or not, because I loved living there and still have contacts there. I wound up here just because this is where my job is.

Is the hospital located in city you desire to live? If so, by all means go to the interview.

I think you should go because there is no harm in finding out if there is a legitimate offer of employment for you. Nothing ventured - nothing gained.

If it was, that wouldn't even be an issue - I'd definitely do it - but it's not. I moved 4 hours in the other direction, and this town is even farther away.

Pretty much everyone with whom I've discussed this has said I should do it, so I guess I will.

The company I'm working for is rapidly expanding - too rapidly, and by all accounts, home office management has no idea what they're doing. This job is fine for now; the other pharmacist there, who's full time, has met these people and told me some real doozy stories.

I think it's worth the investment of time and money to make the trip. See what they have to offer. You don't have to make up your mind unless you're actually offered the job.

Decisions, Decisions!, My advice is do what ever you think is right. If it isn't the right decision don't feel bad you'll be in god company, of many of us that have always mad the wrong decisions in life. Even if I had made the right decision it would have been wrong sooo? What ever path you take is just another adventure in life and not the wrong path, you take what you get in life and make the best of it, you will be building your future either way. As stated in the song, Life is what happens while your making other plans! So live all of each day paying attention to your loved ones, and just do your job!

Any company that's having trouble meeting payroll is a company to avoid.

Chances are, it would be some time before they make a decision regarding who to hire, so I will at least have earned enough money to justify having made THIS move. I'm not sorry I took the job I did, but Darren, you are right - a company that's withholding paychecks is probably not one to which I want to sign on.

We had a technician quit last weekend; he was a no call/no show which isn't a wise thing to do but we weren't surprised. He'd worked over a month and hadn't yet received a check.

Considering that I left my last job under very unethical circumstances and for 14 months, I didn't think I would ever work as a pharmacist again, I'm grateful for what I have right now. On Monday, when I was back in my old city to sign the closing papers on my house (and they gave me the check right then, too! ) I saw a former co-worker at Burger King and she told me, "That place is getting worse and worse every day." She's been there about 30 years and would retire on a moment's notice, but her husband's employment has been erratic in recent years and they NEED her insurance.

I have the interview tomorrow afternoon, and am trying not to think too much about it.

I hope your interview goes well and you get all the information you need to make the right decisions.

The interview did go well - so well, in fact, that they called me about an hour ago to offer me the job!

I gave notice to the agency where I'm presently working, and will make arrangements to move for the second time in 2 months. Sure am glad I got a place with a monthly lease, and didn't completely unpack!

Very good, I'm happy for you. I just started reading this thread, so I'm glad I didn't have to wait for the happy conclusion.

I rescinded the 2-week notice last weekend because I don't know exactly when I'm going to start, and might as well keep working as long as I'm living here. I was also supposed to get an information packet, and when I didn't receive it as of yesterday, called the HR lady and left a voicemail. She still hasn't called back, which makes me think she's on vacation. If I don't hear any more by Thursday, I'll contact her again.

I just hope this isn't a case where they withdraw an offer.

In the meantime, I got estimates from two local moving companies and will contact the one I wish to use when I have a date and address.

I got a call from the new employer informing me that the info packet was mailed out earlier in the week; I didn't get it today, so I should tomorrow.

And the temp agency just called to tell me that they have found a replacement who can start right away, so I don't need to go back there any more. I was actually hoping to keep working there until I moved, because I could use the money, but that's the way it happened.

Aside, but I once had an interview with the AF Logistics Command for a Management Intern program. Question asked by one: "What would you do if you make a mistake which cost the AF $7M?" Thank about it.

Me? I know what I'd do!

I just told my dad what happened, and he thought I'd been fired. Nothing could have been further from the truth; I actually started this job a week earlier than I expected, so that I finished a week earlier than expected shouldn't be too surprising either, I guess.
