NOAA Weather Radio

We had a brief power outage (less than a minute) last week and now the warning alarm feature on my NOAA Weather Radio doesn't work. Noticed it last night as storms came rolling through.

Tried checking the owner's manual and the NOAA website for some answers. No point in relying on it if it won't alert me.

Anyone had this experience? Any way to "reactivate" the alarm feature?

Don't know if this helps but it is from a Midland brand NOAH radio.
Activating the Weather Alert:
1. Press the “ALERT MODE” button to choose between LED, LED SIREN, or VOICE alert types. The NOAA logo will begin blinking. 2. Once an alert type is selected, alert mode is automatically activated. 3. If an alert is received, press the “TEST/ALERT OFF” button to deactivate the alert. (Note: When radio is in weather standby, FM, AM, BUZZ or RADIO modes-and alert mode is activated, radio will automatically override when alert information is received. If “ON/RADIO/BUZZ/OFF” switch is in OFF position, radio will not alert.)

We gave up on weather radio false alerts and now receive text alerts from the NWS, which I think uses the same NOAA system.

We used to receive regular watch and warning statements when a storm approached, but they seem to be hit-or-miss lately, as I'w watching a storm pass right now, with no alerts.

Are you sure an alert was even sent?

I'd start from scratch and reprogram the radio.

I wish I could help Foaly, but I took the batteries out of mine and buried it in a box, lol! It would make me crazy when storming...it would go off every 10 minutes (and is ear-shatteringly loud) with "alerts"...for everyone else in the state BUT me! Yet I never heard even one alert for my direct area, even when it was about to blow my mobile off the blocks and rip the roof right off. I decided it wasn't worth the heart attack it was going to give me from screeching me awake in the middle of the night when it wasn't even for me. Good luck!

Pull the batteries and let it set for a minute or so. Then reinstall the batteries and reprogram it.

I had to do it to the RS handheld SAME technology programable weather radio I had before I gave it away because our NOAA office doesn't use SAME programming and I got tired of getting alerts for 80 miles away disturbing my sleep.

I am ashamed to tell you how I figured it out. I really am smarter than this....or at least I thought so. All I did was turn it over and push the "Reset" button and it started working again.

Thanks for all the help.

Glad to hear you have it operating again, sounds like you will need it for the next couple of days.

Doesn't yours have the ability to program it just for your county and/or other counties you select? We have a Midland and we can program ours for just our county, you have to go online to get the codes and then program it.

I wish we could program ours for JUST tornadoes though, I thought we could, but apparently we can't. Being woken up throughout the night for "Thunderstorm Warnings" isn't any fun!
