More words of wisdom

"He's the kind of person who thinks that if you live in a small town you're stuck, and if you like it you're stupid." From Carroll O'Connor on In the Heat of the Night

Sounds like an accurate description of some of the city people's attitude.

Right. Many of us don't even think about them unless they come out and bother us in the country.
When I lived in the city(Denver and a few others) I never heard anybody come from the country and tell us how stupid we were. Since I've lived in the country(most of my life) I've heard SEVERAL people tell us or "imply" that we must be stupid to live out there voluntarily. I guess the people in the city figure that we need to hear their opinions.

At the risk of irritating any Yankees on this board, I would say that Southerners feel the same way about Northerners as country folk feel about city dwellers.

One of my co-workers was recently having a telephone conversation with a Californian on a Friday afternoon. As they chit-chatted the close of their conversation, the Californian asked my co-worker if he played the banjo.

My wife's niece from Minnesota is here visiting us right now. When she told some of her Minnesotan friends that she was going to visit some of her relatives in Tennessee, they joked about wondering if we Tennesseans would be wearing shoes.

For the most part, it's just humor. Sometimes humor wears thin.

I used to work with a guy from Chicago. He spent most of his time talking about how great Chicago is and how bad Arkansas is and entertaining all his co-workers with stupid redneck jokes. He never could understand why nobody seemed to like him there.
